08 Petrol Hilux. stuck diesel in. it taken to mechanics they drained tanks, replaced fuel filter blew out lines and coolers had for a day engine light came on flat battery. Any ideas of problem??

If you realised it was diesel before you started to drive it probably wouldn't have taken long to rectify. Small amounts of diesel (or petrol in diesel) does not cause much of a problem and with care as much as 10% can be "got away with".

If you drove until it either stopped or was running so badly you couldn't proceed the problem becomes greater.

I doubt the mechanics removed the injectors and flushed them and so they probably kept cranking until the battery was almost discharged before the engine started.

The engine light fault will need checking with an obd scanner to discover the cause. Taking a wild guess it could be the oxygen sensor which is likely to complain bitterly about being bombarded with unburned and burning oil (diesel).

Good luck!

3:1 gas/ diesel in 2011 kia what can I do to remove it?

Basically do NOT drive the car and have the gas tank drained or talk to a mechanic.

Accidentally putting diesel in a gas car If you know that you have accidentally put the wrong fuel in the car, then don't compound the mistake by driving the vehicle while trying to think about what to do. Instead, call your mechanic immediately. At this point, the damage isn't permanent. If you drive and continue to drive, at one point the vehicle will stop and you will still have to have it towed.

There are two things you can do to try to fix the damage:
1. Try to clean up the damage yourself - have the vehicle towed home if it's not there already, and get as much of the diesel fuel out. How? By siphon if you can or any other method that you have available. Once you have as much of the diesel out as you can, fill the tank with the correct unleaded fuel that you normally use. Try to start the vehicle. It could take several attempts but it will start and it will smoke - a lot. It will continue to smoke until the last dregs of the diesel make its way through the system. It might run a little rough until everything is cleaned out. How it runs will depend on the proportion of diesel fuel relative to gas left in the tank.

2. Alternatively, have your vehicle towed to where your mechanic is and have the fuel tank drained of all the diesel fuel by a profession. They are also likely to flush out the whole fuel system. If the diesel stays in there for too long (and who knows how long is too long for your particular vehicle), it could ruin the fuel pump, lines and injectors. It is also possible that the diesel could have gummed up the spark plugs and filters. If this is the case, they will probably need to be replaced. Getting a professional to do the job will cost you anywhere from $100 to $500 and possibly a little higher depending on the extent of the damage.

Need to tune up my truck what will i need to replace

Hi Jeffery, You forgot to say if it has a petrol or diesel engine. In the case of a petrol engine, replace the the oil filter, fuel filter and air filter, and the spark plugs. Other than these items there is little else to do, as the engine performance is entirely controlled by the management system. The only difference between diesel and petrol powered vehicles during service, is that with diesel there are no spark plugs. Remember in the case of a diesel to fill the fuel filter with clean fuel before fitting it to the housing. Doing so will help in expelling the air from the system and make start up easier. Also fill the oil filter with the same multi grade engine oil used in service, so that on start up the engine is lubricated more quickly. Regards John

Car cuts out

Since Fiesta diesels are a pretty new release I would take it back to the dealer under warranty, assuming it is still under warranty. It may be a blocked fuel filter, or contaminated fuel as it sounds like it is starving. Being so new I doubt that'd be the case, unless you've accidentally put petrol in it?? My daughter filled her new diesel up at the petrol bowser on the second fill and paid quite a fee to have the system drained and reprimed with new diesel fuel.
