This is commonly caused by failing gauge motors on the circuit board of the instrument cluster. It is repairable though, check this page for more on it - Tahoe Speedometer Repair

Your problem is like my friends. He and his wife looked all over the vehicle untill they found the wires that were broken. There wireing harness had a spot that had rubbed on the truck and shorted out the gas gage and speedometer.

Check the fuse panel to see if you have a fuse labeled instrument cluster or gauges, if not on the side of the dashboard (or underneath) check under the hood the relay box and look for your problem there. If none of these, then take it to an electrician to have them check it out.
all chevy made in that year have a speedometer issue i have a 2004 chevy that has the same issue the only way to fix it is to replace the dash insturment panel some of them the speedometer goes and the rest of the gages work fine or try replace the speed sensor located at the front of the transmission on the bottom
sounds like you have a bad fuel gauge sending unit common problem it is located inside the the fuel tank with the fuel pump Auto Zone should be able to pull codes to verify this it should say you have a bad fuel level sensor code
