When I turn the car on and turn the key, it sounds like it is trying to start but wont turn over
How old is the battery?you say it is trying to start.their is a difference if the car acts like it is going to start then you may be looking at a fuel problem if it just spins over then your looking at possiably ignition trouble.

I have a 2004 that had the same problem. It sounds like the engine might be flooded. The best thing to do is to remove the fuse to the fuel pump. It will be listed under the fuse cover under the hood. Mine was a 20 amp but check to be sure. With the fuse removed, crank the engine for a minute to remove any fuel flooding the engine. Replace the fuse and crank the engine in 10 second intervals without touching the gas or you will reflood the engine. This process can sometimes take awhile and will drain your battery, so have it connected to an additional power source ( i.e. another car battery or jump box). When the car finally cranks over there will be a huge cloud of smoke so don't be alarmed when it happens. Lastly some words to the wise. This process CAN ruin your starter, but is essentially the same process that the dealership will you except that they will remove the spark plugs to drain the fuel and then charge you for new ones. If this process doesn't work then you probably need new spark plugs which is going to cost quite a bit. I was quoted upwards of $525 to fix this problem until I talked to a Mazda mechanic and found out how to do this myself. Just make sure that the engine is up to running temperature before turning the car off and you shouldn't encounter this problem again. I hope this helps you, and remember that if all else fails the dealer can fix it. It won't be cheap, but they will get it done.
I almost forgot, you HAVE to get the oil changed as soon as possible because there is probably gas in the oil now.

PARK THE CAR UP FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS GOT IN THE CAR TRYED TO START IT TURNED OVER BUT WONT START
drove home from work turned car off went to pick wife up went in the car turned engine on after 30 sec the car died and hasnt started since that was thursday
2001 Focus ZX3 cranks over but won't start. Intermittent over past 3 months, it would work one day then nothing, now won't start at all for 2 weeks. Battery is fine.
Could this be the Nov. 2003 Fuel Delivery Module Recall?
I do not hear the fuel pump run for 2 seconds when key is turned on as the tech manual indicates.
Another sympton it has always had is engine cuts out in right hand turns when less than 1/4 of a tank of gas. It's lots of fun when trying to merge onto freeways.

I have a 2001 Focus that will turn over and if you keep hitting the gas it will start but stops again. I think its the fuel pump.
my 1999 focus starts and drives for a while then dies and then will not start. when i do try and restart the engine all clock needle's go round to the stops to reset also a loud ticking noise can be heard from the back of the engine
