2001 sonata, rats got in engine and chewed up wires on back row of fuel injectors and the engine knocker sensors. car still started after this. How ever car sat for about a year before I could get to replacing chewed wires, also replaced plugs and plug wires since intake was removed. removed old gas and replaced. Since all this has been done I can't get engine to fire. Is there something I missed or needs to be reset ? thanks Don

SOURCE: change spark plugs 2001 4 cyl hyundai sonata

You change One spark plug, and One wire at a time. Do you know where your timing belt is? If not, its on either the right or left side of the engine. There is a covor to the timing belt. You take the First plug that is closest to that belt. Then you work your way to the next closest all the way to the last one. Remember, you have to do ONE at a time.

SOURCE: 2001 hyundai sonata running rough

Try cleaning the IAC idle control valve. Buy a can of brake cleaner or carburater cleaner and with the car running at 1200 rpms spray right into the fuel system area where you take off the duct work for the air cleaner. The idle control valve can be removed also and the 2 holes on the under side of the valve cleaned. They get dirty and cause rough idling or no idling.

If not, have your car scanned for a code to check if it is the IPS (idle position sensor.)

For the gas filling problem , do not stick the whole nozzle in. Just enough to where you can pour the gas without the nozzle clicking off.

SOURCE: 2001 Hyundai Sonata Bogs down

My Son's 01 Sonata displayed the exact same systems and it was his catalytic converter. The metallic sounds were the converter guts disintegrating.

Higher octane gas 93 with some good octane boost in the black can at autozone cost about 7 dollars or a bottle of 104 octane boost. Change the fuel filter. Probably only one coil pack is bad. The OBDII reader should tell you which one was a misfire.

right renew the glow plug timer/relay if you put a meter on the glow plugs when cold and turn ign on (with help) it should supply power for a about 20 secs ,time depends on outside air temperature ,if all else fails then do a colin --- use a push button switch, wired to a relay so glow plugs can be operated by pushing the switch which you will mount on the dash ,cant beat a manual overide system

Put new starter on and battery lights won't come on nor will the car turn over. some rats build a nest in the engine compartment, so i do know how to get the car to start. help me please.

Hi,
Have you put a new battery in the car? If so and it still won't start, try retracing the wires under the hood to be sure the rats haven't chewed through any of them!

Rodents chewed the wires leading from the harness side of the connector for the front o2 sensor on my 2007 hyundai sonata. I cant seem to obtain the correct order of the wires as the dealer says this is...

Rataway fragrance stops odors caused
by rats, mice, squirrels, etc... rataway_bottle.jpg
Makes one gallon when mixed
and protects the surface of areas used for nesting.

Rodents and other animals mark territory (your car, house, etc.) with their scent. Animals are attracted by this scent. Rataway fragrance gets rid of the scent. No lingering scent, no more attraction.

Rataway fragrance protects car engines, wiring, boats, motorhomes, machinery, heavy equipment, etc. when sprayed to protect the surfaces

Rataway fragrance is not a pepper spray.

If you are looking for an effective, natural control for odors, Rataway fragrance is it.

Again... Rataway fragrance can be used around children, pets, and service personnel.

What is Rataway Fragrance?Rataway fragrance is a spray that is very offensive to wild animals such as rats, mice, squirrels, rabbits, raccoons, dogs, cats, horses, skunks, and monkeys. Rataway fragrance is not offensive to humans.

Under warranty

I have seen the damage that one squirrel has done on a Dodge van. Unfortunately all of the injector wires needed to be respliced. It happens more often than you think. I also knew of a rat that chewed through a serpentine belt on a 5.0 liter Mustang. The owner started the car and chewed the heck out of that rat. True story. What a mess he made.

MissFire?

i think you might have a mouse living in your engine compartment
but i would look at a mouse dead inside your muffler since this is the warmest place the cuts off the cars way of breathing
when you come to a stop the dead mouse moves inside muffler and creates a blockage just enough to almost smother vehicle rats find muffler pipes warm area to live in
i would also change the oxygen sensor out too

since you mentioned rats i would gothrew whole vehicle in detail and look for chewed frayed wires windshield wiper motors things of this nature they may have chewed threw a relay and you wouldnt know once you have rats they can do lots of damage to a vehicle

also if vehicle sat for long time i would check the tank for debry and change the sending units filter out for better performance along with vehicles fuel filters

fuel injector relay can also be bad giving you the chug

bad coil

build of gunk in the throttle body houseing

air filter clog or not enough air

these are things i can think off the top of my head since im not there in person to see vehicle
i hope this had helped you in some remedy
