I have a BMW 2004 745i with 118k miles. Since it's been cold in the morning the car has been rough idling when I start the car(@1000 rpm's). If I start driving it before it goes to 500 rpm's the dash will blackout and then goes into Transmission failsafe, dynamic drive inactive and sometimes engine overheating. I turn off the car and turn it back on then everything is fine. So now I wait until the rpm's go to 500 rpm before I start driving the car. So far no problems except the dynamic drive inactive comes up infrequent. The only other error message i got while driving was the generator fault. Any ideas on what the issue could be?

Do you have check engine light on? You probably forgot to plug something in when you where putting it back together.

It can be issue with IAC( idle air control valve) causing the problem.

There are many other possibilities causing these idle issues. Engine idles rough.

the distributer cap is probly worn-inspect--throttle body may need cleanin/also idle air contol/egr valve--get vehicle scanned its an OBD I system

for the temp problem, check the fan clutch maybe broke. change the center part of the fan.

For the RPM's jumping up and down i would replace the throttle position sensor. If it smells like bad gas or rotten eggs these are signs that the cat. converter is going bad. For the poor gas mileage replace the fuel filter.

Could be many things, Check the EGR valve and make sure its not stuck open, Oil pressure low is probably due to rough idle or low RPM. Also may have restricted cat converter.

check idle speed sensor on your intake manifold around 700 to 750 rpm is normal ,air temp may efect idle speed .

You should check your engine's AIR hoses that are connecting to the airbox. sometimes a simple airleak will be enough to alter your idle. Specially when its cold the car will already idle rough ( I know im canadian lol). So go check your air hoses ;)
