It has a timing belt that MUST be changed every 100,000kms..........if it had a chain, then it only needs to be replced when it becomes noisy...

I would suggest also replcing the water pump whilst the belt is off......save time/labour later on down the track....

On the 2004 Element. Do you have to change the timing belt at a particular time ; or does it have a Chain?

Honda element has a Timing Chain, and Honda doesn't even recommending looking at it till something like 110,000 or 120,000 miles.
However, it is this an "interference" engine, meaning that if the chain or belt fails it could destroy the valve train and even the pistons.
Because it is an interference engine. I plan to change my chain at 100K, since I expect the car to go at least 200K but don't expect the chain to last that long.
Normally cars has Tune ups scheduled at 30K, 60, and 90K. As the rule of the thumb at 90K Tune up mechanic shops recommend timing Belt or Chain to be replaced. We can go for longer taking the risk.

Does a chevy 5.3 V-8 have a timing belt or chain? My truck just turned 100k and I'm wondering if it needs maintenance or replacing.

Chain. It doesn't need replaced unless it has a problem. Chains don't have a service replacement interval.

Does the 1996 T-100 Toyota pick-up have a timing belt or a timing chain?

It has a timing BELT. I just had mine replaced ($600). After well over 100k. It was barely worn so go to the effort/expense of checking before you go whole hog on a replacement. Also the V6 3.4 litre is a NON interference engine.

Has a 2004-2006 honda accord 2.2 diesel, timing belt or chain?

Belt is better replace either about every 100.000 or you'll destroy the engine when it goes out

Belt is Better because it's easier to replace, therefore much cheaper

Chain is inside and in the oil bath so harder= more expensive

By the way. dealer says replace every 60K . 100K is a MAXIMUM
