I have a 98 chevy malibu and when i turn the heater on the blower works fine but the air goes from hot to cold hot to cold every couple minutes. what might be the cause of this

First thing to look at is coolant level. It sounds like the coolant pump will push coolant to the heater core and then stops pumping because it has air because to low. If coolant level is full, the vanes on the coolant pump might be spinning on the shaft, in which case you will have to replace the pump.

I have coolant steam inside my car coming from my heater - 98 chevy blazer

Hello
Your going to need a heater core, this is located in the heater fan box under the dashboard.
Possibly may be found mounted to the firewall under the hood.

Let it cool down before attempting any repairs.Another possibility is a broken hose at the heater core.

Where is the heater core at on a 1999 chevy malibu with the 3100 in it

If it is necessary to remove the heater assembly, the cooling system must be drained before removing the heater core.
When a heater core leaks, a new heater core is installed or the old one repaired.
Heater Housing
  • The heater housing is usually under the dash and must be removed to gain access to the heater core.
  • Procedures for replacing the heater core vary with the year, make, and model of car. It threfore necessary to consult the manufacturer's repair manuals for the proper procedure for replacement.
f74-01.gif The heater housing is disassembled to get to the heater core. Heater Core
  • Remove the access panels(s) or the split heater/air conditioning case to gain acess to the heater core.
  • Remove the heater coolant hoses.
  • Remove the cable and/or vacuum control lines (if equipped).
  • Remove the heater core securing brackets and/or clamps.
  • Lift the core from the case. Do not use force. Take care not to damage the fins of the heater core when removing.
  • To reinstall the heater core, reverse the removal steps.
When the heater core leaks and must be repaired or replaced, it is a very difficult and time-consuming job primarily because of the core's location deep within the firewall of the car. For this reason always leak test a replacement heater core before installation.

2003 malibu

A heater core is located behind the dash on the passenger side. If you look under the hood you will see 2 heater hoses going to the fire wall again, on the passenger side, your heater core is located behind the hoses. You will need to take the dash loose or off to get to the air box the heater core rides in.

How to change a heater core in a 1999 Chevy Malibu?

Before starting this job I would get a repair manual. This is not a easy job, 6+ hours for an experienced tech with all of the right tools. And you may have to discharge and recharge the AC system.

HEATER CORE

Going to your local public Library would be best at this point.
Also,,i should warn you that replacing the heater core is a difficult job for someone inexperienced, and even when you know what you are doing, it is difficult.
