Try spraying wd40 into each door latch. Do it one at a time then open and close the door about a dozen times spray some more in there after about 6 open and closes. Do this with each door and even the hatch. This should clear ya right up.
Hi Mike
If you are getting a repeated Door ajar signal then it is because one of the door switches that shuts off the interior lights/shows door ajar. Has failed or is out of adjustment.
the best way to check for this is to follow this procedure:
1 With all of the doors firmly closed open the drivers door. That is the one with the most wear. At the Front edge of the "A" pillar. inside the door jam there should be one or two buttons. NOTE: IF THERE ARE TWO BUTTONS ONE OF THEM MAY BE FOR THE PURPOSE OF ILLUMINATING THE DOOR AJAR DASHBOARD LAMP.
Look at the interior lights (OR DOOR AJAR INDICATOR)and while looking at them, push the button(s) in and out. The lights should blink on and off. Note: if you have delayed shut of of the dome lights, you would have to hold the button in until the light should shut off. If the lights go off during this test, then the switch is out of adjustment. If the switch is damaged upon visual inspection. Just replace the switch. If you have not found the problem, i.e. the lights stay on (OR AJAR LAMP STAYSON) when the switch is being held in. Close the door and repeat the procedure for all of the remaining doors and the rear doors. ONE of the doors should reveal the answer.
Hope this helps you solve this situation.
Best Regards,
Mark
On many Fords Mark the door ajar switch is located in with the door latch, below it actually. Just a friendly tip.
Thanks raineman for the tip. It is news to me. Best, Mark
02 Explorer, Constant Door Ajar LIght, No Switches or buttons on jamb, Light controled by position of Door Lock, Mechanism, Found broken ground wire in rubber conduit between front edge of door and door jamb between the hinges. Soldered back together and shrink tubed splice. Presto!
How do you adjust the switch? The plunger looks fine and if I press it in the light goes off. Drivers side Toyota Sienna 2001.
