I have a 2001 Hyundai Accent, Petrol, 1.5 glx.My mech says the O2 sensor has conked off, but he's unable to get a spare, and everything costs upwards of 5k. I was wondering if there are any cheaper alternatives to fix this.

I think your problem may be MICE. Check your upper and lower O2 Sensor wires. I believe they are both 4 wire sensors. If a wire has been chewed through this is what happens. I personally had this problem myself once in my 2000 Hyundai Accent. GOOD LUCK.
Only a dealer can make and program a chipped key.To program it yourself requires a machine which probably costs at least $2,000-$3,000 and access to the codes which would not be available to the public/consumers for any reason.Greg
IAT SENSOR IS MOUNTED INSIDE INTAKE AIR HOSE TO THE AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY. THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR IS ALSO MOUNTED TO THE INTAKE AIR HOSE OF THE AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY. O2 SENSORS LOCATION.YOU HAVE 2 # O2 SENSORS.YOU HAVE ONE THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD.THE OTHER SENSOR LOCATED DOWN AT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER.
dealer only to programme it,but they can be cut and programmed by a specialist in automotive keys but you will need the 4 figure code for your chassis number and a lot of dealers will not give you this information. Also you cannot remove the factory immobiliser as the ECU unit is extremely complicated and no wiring diagrams are published,Dont argue or go their as iam not happy with the way bill gates look alike nerds are putting me out of work.
