You will have to change both sides to start with. I'm doing this on a 1996 ram 1500. first, put the truck on 2 wheel drive or neutral for traction, raise vehicle, i got a lift it's easy, remove both wheels, calipers and rotors. unlock the driveshaft nut (cotter pin) and unbolt that nut. on the inside of the hub, first mark the relation on one side between the yoke and the shaft, then, there is 3 bolts holding the hub in, remove them. next, more cotter pins, upper and lower ball joint and tie-rod end need to come out, so, unscew the tie-rod end first and seperate it with ball joint seperator. do the same for the upper and lower ball joints. seperate the spindle and the axel should come out. the rest is standard procedure to change a ball joint.
let me know if it's enough info or if you want more please.

How to change front u-joints on a 2001 ram 1500 4x4.

That model does not have U-joints, it uses constant velocity (CV) joints. It is much easier, and usually just as cost effective, to replace the half shafts (front axles that go from the differential to the wheels). Most parts stores don't even sell the CV units separately, and they are a lot more work to change.

1998 dodge ram 4x4 how do i replace the front u joints on passenger side

u need to take of the brake pads and rotor. loosen the three bolts to the wheel bearing, take the top one completely out. take a long socket with another guy in the truck. start it and have the socket wedged on the bolt and the front axle. dont use the 12 point socket ur using to loosen bolts. it might break. anyways turn the steering wheel until the socket pushes on the bolt breaking the bearing loose from the axle u get that and u pull the shaft out and change the u joint

Upper and lower ball joint replacement

to remove the axles, remove brake caliper and disc, remove hub assembly, the center hub/axle nut and...(there are i think 3-4 bolts on the back side of the spindle to remove the hub), you may have to force the hub off the spindle with a hammer or air hammer... once the hub is out the axle should slide out of the front differential allowing access to the ball joint nuts for removal...

How about the u-joints? Could be the ones to the front wheels or the u-joints on the driveshaft.
