I have an 1994 GMC sierra 1500 4x4 and it has a lever to shift it into 4x4 hi or lo or 2 hi. I can shift it into any position but my front tires do not turn only the back ones! what could be the problem?? pleas help me cause I live in an area where I regularly have to use the 4x4 and I have been getting stuck in many places.

well do you have a switch or push button selector or a actual floor shifter? Ok, when you are driving you can and only should shift from 4 hi to 2 hi and 2 hi to 4 hi at any speed as long as tires are not spinning and you are not on the gas. when shifting, release gas pedal slightly and shift. do not shift lets say when you are taking off at a light, this would be under power and will do damage to drivetrain. also you can shift at any time while vehicle is at a stop position. Now when shifting into 4 lo the vehicle must be stopped and should be put in nuetral and when shifting out of 4 lo the vehicle must be stopped and in nuetral also as to not damage drivetrain. Never drive faster than 25 mph in 4 lo as you will damage drivetrain. When i say shift i mean either push the button to 2 hi or 4 hi or turn selector knob to position desired, or push , pull shift lever on floor to desired position. I dont know what your set up is . but they all use the same instructions as how to shift the 4x4 selections

best advise is to change they gear box completely

your transmission has to electrical plugs that are the same one of the plugs are damaged, unplugged, or if someone changed trans plugs could be backwards
