The light is the engine light and the reason that you cannot go fast is because the CPU is in limp mode. Check the oil and water levels and check engine operating temperature. Have the codes read to find the sensor that put the car in limp mode to protect the engine and gear box.
Normally, only 2 things stop a diesel from firing: 1. no fuel 2. not enough compression
No fuel can be caused by (obviously no fuel) or a failed fuel pump. To test, have someone turn the engine over and then sniff at the exhaust - does it smell of unburned diesel? (If you've run out of diesel recently, you may have an airlock in the system, this needs bleeding out.)
Not enough compression needs specialised equipment to test - that's a garage job.
Hi, I had the same problem, the car kept accelrating and the RPM needle kept jumping, I turned off the cruise control and I had no problem after that. I do however have problems with my cruise control as I do other electrical issues. Anyhow, I believe this would fix your problem. Please let me know what happens:)
try some of the Lucas product for diesel engines,
diesels are made for hard work/pulling. not for fuel economy
the best thing you can do is to keep the fuel filter changed as often or sooner than the manual recommends. it will be the heart to a happy diesel
