Butchprof/96 saturn Car turns over very strong. at times it acts as though it is trying to start,but just doesn't make it .Starter sounds strong, there is gas in car,what else should i try?? This problem occured when my daughter ran some errands .She parked the car and it won't restart.. she said the car ran fine before she parked it in a covered garage.. the car didn't run hot before parking. thought maby it was fuel pump, she let car run out of gas shortly prior to the problem. tried using starter fluid to start, still no go..

Haven't tried your solution yet, the battery was really dead from setting for over 3 months without charging. Have it on a slow charge will try your solution when there is a full charge.. Will reply after trying.. thank you...

If it won't fire off of starting fluid,time to check for spark.Remove a plug wire from a plug,and insert into the boot a medium sized phillips head screwdriver.Snap the screwdriver in,and lay it somewhere near a ground source,within a 1/4" from the ground source,but not touching it.Have someone crank the car over while you LOOK for a spark arcing from the screwdriver to the ground source.Do not hold the screwdriver as you may get a JOLT if you do.If no spark at all,try another plug wire.If no spark,you have an ignition problem.

normally shims are not needed on anything newer than a 1988.. if it doesn't sound right it may be the wrong starter. teeth not lining up on flywheel.. change the gear on the starter with your old one and see if that fixes your issue. pitch of the teeth could be different

96 saturn sl2, sometimes wont turn over, sometimes starts fine

It sounds like it's time to get your car a new starter. But you might want to clean and make sure that your battery terminals have a good connection.and,that your battery and alternator aren't going bad. auto zone will test those things for you for free if you take your car to one of there stores.that way your sure you are fixing the right problem.

If that's the case then the starter is surely faulty that's why you hear a tick sound but be sure that the battery has a good charge. If the battery is strong and it still fails to start then surely is a starter problem. But if it starts on a new battery then the old battery is worn out and needs replacement.

Have you tried replacing the O2 sensor and having your fuel injectors cleaned and checked? It sounds like it could be a fuel problem / emissionsproblem.

Every now and then my 98 Saturn wont start...it doesnt try to turn over but have power-usually after about 20 minutes of trying it will start

Sounds like you have a flat spot in your starter,this is why it only acts up from time to time when this dead spot is in the right position.Next time this happens tap your starter with a hammer and see if it will go then.If so you need a new starter.Good luck

My 1997 Staurn SW1 wont crank, yet it has a charge.HELP!!!!

Well the clutch switch can make it do it the neutral safty swited if it's an auto the starters do die all the sudden at maybe tapping on it with someone holding the key to start will get it going but if it does the starter is bad and needs replaced. carpet under the clutch pedal has not let the clutch pedal down all the way and it'll do it too. The auto matic might start in nuetral as this part of the switch may not be worn. and work

Car wouldnt start replace ignition switch, clutch switch then starter worked for 2 days now starter clicks but wont start left overnight car starter but when turned off wont restart

sounds like there is a dead spot in the starter. i think the other stuff may not have needed to be replaced. when the car won't start, have someone try to start while you TAP the starter with a hammer.- probably the starter, though.
