Hello, Need pin out voltages for a 98 grand cherokee larado connector to the cluster .( RHDrive )
Not willing to insert a new cluster untill loom checks out. My connector shows different to the infrmation provided by a friendly Adelaide jeep dealership. ( South Australia) Most manuals show this info but have only got wrangler and cherokee CD's not Grand cherokee 98 !!!!
Also, most diagrams show 2 ground terminals and mine reads as if there is no earth. I HAVE left and right indicators, one (fused at kisk panel fuse group OK ) constant 12 volts one 12 volt ign.start run, one dimmer control terminal, and 2 terminals reading 2.5 volts approx , assume these are the "bus" lines.
WHAT are the others and does any one know how to check out the new cluster to make sure it is the correct one ????
Have had an intermittent Failure of fuse control coils of auto shut down and fuel pump relays for several years now .fault goes before able to trace it. Longest the fault lasted was 20mins but still unable to find cause by discconecting items etc.As soon as I start looking for short in circuit before or in parallel with the relay coil circuits the fault disappears and I haveonly moved the power distribution box cover and tried to insert a test light in the circuit. Ffinally cluster has failed permently on all but hard wired items .ie no gauges and warning lights but dimmer control and ABS warning light working? . vehicle towed home. Fault gone no fuse blows but still no cluster. All other systems working .
My non genuine wiring diagrams show only imobiliser on same circuit but this system works although I am not sure if the chime worked immediately,. I think imobiliser is in module with sound device etc. But not sure .
Have stripped out loom around power distribution box - no visible damage and no electrical fault between relay coil to power control computer . Any way if there was an earth ing fault there the fuse would not blow. Must be a fault between fuse and relay but this goes into the main loom and difficult to get to. If I bypass it car starts now because there is not a problem. When I tried to bypass the fuse with another in line from hot side of fuse to relay input with the problem, the car started and then I found the problem goneso ofcoursethe car started . returned wires to original but cluster not working! !!!!!!*&^*^&%

ps i am a motor mechanic not an auto electrician!!!
Hi friend
here is link 4u

I could not find the wiring diagram for the instrument panel online, I will give another try, in the meanwhile what about buying the
Haynes manual for Laredo, you will find diagrams and step by step installing procedure described with pictures in there.
I suggest getting the whole Haynes manual, but if you just need diagrams you can buy here for $6.
Here you go, I found free generic diagrams for new jeep models, :
InstrumentClusterConnectors-8W_Page-25
InstrumentClusterPrintedCircuit-8W_Page-26
And rest of wiring diagrams for 90s jeep models
Generally check the relays, you should find them in the the box under the hood and also under the dash. Check also the ground wire in the dash cluster.

Hello, vin no: is 1J4GZB8S5WY114165 so what model is this Laredo ???? need instrument cluster info not radio but thanks Ginko for the interesting site.
Thanks S4u311 this is close but not on the bulls eye! I have a 98 ZJ Grand cherokee Larado apparently. It is a 6 cyl 4.0 lt engine. For some reason I do not seem to be able to find a workshop manual anyware??? vin no 1J4GZB8S5WY114165
any ideas welcomed
cheers
have checked out the circuit again today and relay control which occasionally blows a 20amp fuse has now a 5 amp on it to go immediately while idling in the garage, but no problem today. Am driving around with a instrument cluster which has no tacho, no speedo etc , spooky
cheers
Thanks Ginco, glad to know some one has ideas. I have the Hayes manual and it is good for some things. But does not cover the cluster or says something like use the dealership scanner. Done that paid for scan and no result. Dealer naturally unable to put a rough estimate of cost. Due to intermitant fuse failure. Also gave me wrong print out for vehicle !!! I will try another dealer eventually if all else fails. Auto electricians also say find a wiring diagram. I cannot believe it is so hard ?
Wow thanks but ....sadly the 98 cluster has a rectangular 10 pin connector. I might try this tom o jeep site and ask the question there hey ?
cheers and thanks but any other ideas welcome

Hi Ginco, have replaced all relays several times, have bypassed parts of the circuit for the fuel pump relay for about 6 months , no problems . but recently the section of the loom between the relay coil fuse to the auto shut down blue the fuse , I had a few minutes to deliberalty put a 20amp resetable fuse in for a while and search for hot spots. No luck. But the cluster had gone out and did not come back on ! ie the cluster always dropped out when this fuse blew. So logically the cluster is the problem but 3 auto electricians have told me that it should not be the cluster .
I will rewire both relay circuits to the relay coils next although all systems are working except the cluster. I am not sure what to do to the cluster connectors. The XJ cherokee diagrams 97 and 99 show 2 ground circuits and I do not have any ?????? So tomorrow will put in ground circuits on a couple of pins but it will be a gamble unless I can get a diagram.I know 6 of the 10 pins !!!!
cheers
