Hi

the Hydrolic clutch has failed by the sound of it, the clutch on his car shares fluid with the brakes hence why both pedals went down. you might be lucky and the slave cylinder might have failed or lost pressure, this in fact is very common on this car.

Have the slave cylinder checked out and look under the car for any fluid leaks

Regards

Dan

2008 VW Rabbit. Why did clutch suddenly stop working?

Could I have more information please? What exactly do you mean by "Suddenly stopped working". Use the Comment button below and I'll try to give you more help. Does the pedal feel the same when you press it or has it changed? Softer, harder or sinks to the floor and won't return to the start position? Are there any strange noises when you press the pedal or try to shift gears? Noises like grinding, crunching or squealing?
Loss of clutch could be a few things. The fluid level could be too low so the thrust bearing inside the gearbox housing can't push on the clutch mechanism. Check your Brake Fluid Reservoir levels as this fluid is for both the clutch and the brakes. There could be an air bubble in the fluid pipes causing an 'Air Lock'. An air bubble means the fluid isn't moving no matter how hard you press the pedal.
There could be a worn part in the clutch system that's slipping or broken preventing the clutch from working correctly. On average, in normal use, a clutch can last about 60 thousand miles before it can give problems. Some driving styles can be rough on clutches so they can wear out faster.
Please comment with more information and i'll see if we can work out what the problem is.

I have a 2003 subaru baja (no turbo) and while driving on the highway had to almost come to a complete stop due to a sudden accident in front. since then I have a whining/grinding like sound when I press...

If you are driving and you put the vehicle in neutral and coast, push the brake pedal and NOT the clutch pedal and see if the noise is still there. If the noise is there, then you will need to get your brakes checked out. If the noise only happens when the clutch is pushed in, then your clutch release bearing might have something wrong with it. I hope this info helps.

97 jeep Cherokee clutch will not depress to start the engine

Now you need to bleed the clutch at the clutch slave cylinder down on the transmission to restore the clutch.
Put a wrench on the bleed valve and open it, then lightly close it. Now have someone pump the clutch a couple of times to build pressure. Then while the clutch pedal is slowly pressed down open the bleed valve, then close valve as pedal gets to floor. Repeat this bleed process until a steady stream of brake fluid comes out the bleed valve. Then you should have a good clutch again.

Manual Transmition, While driving the clutch pedal went right to the floo and stayed down. I lifted the pedal with my foot and with a light touch i pushed down on the pedal and it it began a grinding sound...

the slave cylinder on the trans works just like a brake cylinder, when fluid pressure is applied it flows into the cylinder and pushes against a clutch fork which engages a throw out bearing against the clutch pressure plate fingers. a couple things could have happened. I think your trans is fine but im sure the clutch fork or the pressure plate broke. I'm sorry but the trans is gonna have to be pulled. best wishes

My daughter was driving the 1993 jeep grand cherokee and she stepped on brakes to stop behind car and no brakes. just a few days before i had the brakes checked and they worked good and she had been...

What do you mean no brakes? pedal was stiff would not press down?, pedal went to floor? That needs to be checked. if there are no fluid leaks, I would suspect the master cylinder.

1989 s-10 2.8 5 speed 2 wheel drive. i've never had a problem with the clutch. never slipped. ever. last night i was driving just like i always do and all of a sudden it wouldn't come out of 3rd gear...

Sounds like you might have broke the fingers on the pressure plate or the throwout bearing came apart. When someone pushes the clutch pedal you can see the clutch fork moving?

97 Jeep TJ sport - Clutch Pedal has gone limp

It's possible your clutch fork broke. Also, check to see if it's a hydraulic clutch. You could have a leak in the hydraulic system. Both would cause your clutch pedal to go to the floor.

Clutch pedal very stiff, goes in out, dont' grab....

You can go to this link. It's a website sells manuals and honestly, since I've bought one from them, I didn't need further help. I have chrysler 2002 and it almost broke down but I got a $9 manual, and it's perfectly fine now.
