Electric seat on driver side now goes in opposite direction using switch at base of seat, also when you remove the key, now the seat goes all the way forward and pins you to the dash as opposed to how it used to work, which was move the seat all the way back. you still can stop the seat with the seat control or tap the driver 1 or 2 button on the door. this is a LT model.

Easiest thing to check first is the fuse. If that's good. I'd disconnect the plug at the motor and see if it's getting power when you try to move it.

I would start by taking it apart and drying it out, but there may be damage to the electrical components.

Raise car and block securely. Underneath on floor pans directly below seats you will see oval or round rubber grommets.(plugs) Use flat screw driver to pry out. You will see a nut under each. Remove nuts and remove seat. Installation of aftermarket seats may require you to drill new holes and or addition of shims to square up the base of the new seat. Flat washers work well.

Each motion of your electric seat is operated by 3 components:

1. Fuse/Relay - ensure the fuse or relay is not faulty (before you do anything else).

2. switch - each position of the switch can be tested by the use of a multimeter. If the switch proves ok, then continue testing the motors.

3. motors - if you remove your seat from the vehicle, you will see 2 or more motors (depending on how many functions your seats have) underneath, or inside the back. You can detach the motor wiring connectors and using a jumper wire, connect each pin dircectly to the car + & - battery terminals. If the motor spins ok, then revers the wires to confirm the motor spins in the opposite direction. Do this test for each of the motors. If a motor does not respond in one (or more) directions, then you have a suspected faulty motor.

You should be able to obtain these parts from the same model Subaru, at your local car wrecker.

This has been a common problem in fords. The issue is generally simple to fix. The Problem is the ignition switch. Not the Ignition tumbler where the key goes in but, the actual Electrical portion of the Switch.
Because you have not listed the exact year and model I will tell you that the ignition switch is generally located directly across from the key. This requires removing the sterring column cover over the ignition, just behind the steering wheel. Once removed you will see a switch located on the opposite side of the keys( Generally on the left) It will have a push on wiring harness and 2 or 3 mounting screws. Simply remove the wiring clip, remove the screws and then remove the switch. A switch can be purchased at your auto parts dealer. I do not recommend using a junk yard part unless you want to do this again in a few months.

• control the movements of the driver's seat and power exterior rearview mirrors
• store and recall seat and mirror positions of two personalized settings
• receive all power seat and mirror control inputs from the Driver's Door Module (DDM) through the J1850 communication network
• move the exterior rearview mirrors downward when the transmission is shifted into reverse, if enabled.

Seats — Driver Door Module
The driver's seat regulator control switch is connected to the Driver Door Module (DDM). The DDM receives the driver's seat regulator control switch input and communicates the direction of movement over the J1850 communication network.

Also, the dealer can run a scan on your seat modules with his tester and tell you what the codes are. They should only charge an hour to do this. Then you can decide what to do. Call your dealer and ask how much to run the scan test.

You could try swapping out the seat switch from the other side if you are just trying to move the **** portion forward or backward. What usually goes wrong is the seat switch gets corroded and needs to be disassembled and rebuilt. The opposite seat switch will no fit the other side and mount but you can finesse it around to a position where you can make connectioin.

To remove seat switches - Use a small screw driver to carefully pry up the button control knobs (**** and back knobs) on top of the switch housing. Next, remove the cover plate and there you will have 2 screws exposed to remove the switch.

If it's anything like my 1994 Vandura, you have a small panel of rocker switchers above the rearview mirror for turning your interior lights and other gadgets(tv, vcr, etc) off and on.

The leftmost switch on mine moves the electric bench seat up and down, *and* forward and back. The trick is that you have to hold it down to make it move.

With mine, even though there are four actions:
- slide seat forward
- slide seat backward
- fold seat down
- fold seat up
there is only one rocker switch.

So what you do is hold "up" on the switch and see what it does. If it slides the seat in either direction, up for your van is for both sliding forward *and* back. To do the opposite direction, just wait a second then press the same button the same way a second time.

If up makes it fold, it's the same principle. Hold the rocker switch depressed in the up position to make it fold up. Wait a moment and repeat to make it go down.

It wasn't intuitive for me either but once you know and play with it a bit it makes sense. Probably better than having four switches up there anyway :)
