1997 jeep cherokee country white smoke under hood, runs good, does not run hot

Interesting.
White smoke is usually burning coolant.
You should be loosing a fluid, something has to be burning to make the smoke.
It could be a very slight drip onto the hot exhaust manifold or pipe if it is only happening from under the hood.

What are common causes for engine oil being burned under the hood but the leak is out of line of sight?

It very well may be comeing from under the engine, sounds like there is an oil leak that only leaks under presure and is leaking on to the hot exhast.

Smoke is coming out from under my hood...checked antifreeze and oil so it fine

white smoke usualy tells about a leakage in the cooling. check that. dont forgett to refill. get it repaired or DIY. attention: could be really hot.

if it smells like fuel, a fuel line is broken. then dont drive any more since it can catch fire.

if the smoke is not white, go to the repair shop instantly.

Got a 96 crown vic that runs but smoking white smoke from under the hood and it runs hot ....the resevoir is full so there is no leak there and i replaced the thermostat but it didnt work

you ether have a coolant leak or one of these are the problem thermastat, fan clutch, water pump, radiator, try this start car when it reachs normal temp open hood and pinch the top radiator hose if it is hot water is flowing thermastat is good now open radiator with a towel slowly while it is runing see if the water is moving if it is you water pump and radiator are good, now at some point in this time you should have heard the fan get loud if not your fan clutch is not work it mounts to the front of your water pump and is normal to go out because they lose about 250rpm a year which does not give them much of a life, dont forget to check your heater hoses they could be leaking

Smoke

  1. Sometimes the steam from under the hood, because it is over heat.

  1. Check the water hose include the heater hose, it is a smaller hose behind the engine on the top near the back of the hood, find out which hopes is leaking.

  1. If the hose is OK, check the freeze plug on the engine, because if the engine is too old, maybe the plug was rust and leaking, when it’s leaking, the engine is hot, you will see the steam under the hood.

  1. When engine is hot, you have to be very carefully, do not open the water cap, if you want to open, you have to either wait a while or use a heavy towel to cover the radiator cap, then open it.

  1. Maybe the radiator is leaking.
I hope this can help you a little bit. good luck.
