After replacing steering column containing origonal key/tumbler/resistor(anti-theft) ,I still have no spark.all other systems appear to function properly ;Including alarm/remote start/keyless entry system. 2000 yukon denali 5.7 AT 4WD

Ignition Key
The ignition key for vehicles which are equipped with the PASS-Key® II system consists of the following components:
• A typical square ignition key blank
• A resistor pellet
The PASS-Key® II ignition key has the same mechanical key cuts as a non-PASS-Key® II ignition key. You can not service the key blank and resistor pellet separately. There are 15 different ignition key assemblies, each with a different key pellet resistance value.
When you service the PASS-Key® II system, obtain all ignition keys. Verify the proper key code values withJ 35628-A Interrogator.
Steering Column (Ignition) Lock Cylinder
The steering column (ignition) lock cylinder that is used with the PASS-Key® II system contains a set of electrical terminals. The terminals are used to contact the resistor in the ignition key.
The wire routing for the contacts inside the steering column is very critical. When you service the lock cylinder, maintain proper wire routing.
When you replace a steering column lock cylinder, make new keys. The new keys must match the following items:
• The PASS-Key® II code of the PASS-Key® II system
• The mechanical cut of the new steering column (ignition) lock cylinder.


Measure the resistance of the pellet on the key , go to radio shack an buy a resistor of same value an solder into wiring harness .

The resistors in the ignition switch/key are different from what was in there originally. Check that out.

This module is located behind the steering column shroud and contains an antenna connected to a small electronics module. During each vehicle start sequence, the transceiver module reads the encoded ignition key identification code and sends the data to the instrument cluster.
And the dealer is the only one that can program the keys . or a mobile lock smith .

Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) Transceiver Removal

1. CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result.
   Disconnect the battery ground cable, Refer to Section 414-01

1. Remove the ignition switch lock cylinder.
   1. Insert the ignition key into the ignition switch lock cylinder and turn to the RUN position.
   1. Push the ignition switch lock cylinder release tab with a punch while pulling out the ignition switch lock cylinder.
   2. If equipped, remove the tilt wheel handle.
   3. Remove the upper and lower steering column shrouds.
      1. Remove the screws.
      1. Remove the upper and lower steering column shroud.
      2. Remove the lower instrument panel steering column cover.
         1. Remove the screws.
         1. Remove the lower instrument panel steering column cover.
         2. Remove the instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement.
            1. Remove the bolts.

            2. Remove the anti-theft transceiver module.
               1. Remove the screw from the bottom of the transceiver module.
               1. NOTE: Only apply pressure or leverage below the key cylinder lower rib.
                  Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the module.

Not sure what kind of vehicle you are working on, but there is a good chance if it has a passlock anti theft system that your new column has a different resistor chip and the anti theft system is active

bcm has very little to with the anti theft. you need to de active the anit theft

If code 53 involves the PASS system for your car, the chip in the key has failed, or the sensor in the lock cylinder, or the control module.
The anti-theft system disables the starter and the fuel injectors. You could bypass those circuits to get the car started.

if you disconnect the battery and let it sit awhile this will disable the airbag.
