I have a 2000 Avalon and have gotten a Check Engine code of P1354. The Jiffy Lube folks tell me this is something to do with the VVI Malfunction Bank 2. How serious is this? Can I drive the car for a week before I bring it in ?

The vvt-i system control timing with the help of the oil pressure if you are pass due, or skip oil changes, or oil is low due to a leak, or improper fill during an oil change, or simple the vvt-i oil actuator, or the vvt-i oil gear are faulty this code may be set.

What you can do. Make sure the oil is ok, the oil filter is new, now disconnect the battery for 10 seconds. code is clear if code comeback is time to let the dealer take care of the problem they have bidirectional scanners to activate this devices and tell you the best course of action.

2000 Toyota Avalon with a p1354 code. ( bank 2 vvt ). Replaced both back 1 and bank 2 vvt solenoids. Drove car over 100 miles and came back on again. Light comes on and a few days later it begins missing...

Timing belt is a bit stretched. Time to have it replaced. Toyota has to be dead on the money, when it comes to the timing marks. I done several of them and you have to add extra pressure to the belt tensioner to make them run right.

P1354

I found this on a google search i hope it will help you as the engine is the same QUESTION: , 2001 Avalon 145,000 miles. Recently developed rough idle when warm. Today produced codes of P1150, P1354. It points to the VVT system. Can a DIY diagnose and repair from home?

Thanks,
John

ANSWER: The P1354 code is for the VVTi malfunction on bank2 which is the cylinder head near the firewall, the 1150 code is for the air.fuel ratio sensor on the same head, the VVTi code can cause the A/F ratio sensor to go out of range, the main cause is the P1354 code which should be delt with first, this can be caused by a worn timing belt that has junped a tooth on the sprocket, this should be checked first, at this mileage if it has never been replaced it may be the problem. If your scanner can read live data see where the engine timing is at.
If the timing is not the problem it may be a bad oil control valve for the VVTi system, to be sure it should be active tested using a diagnostic tool that is capable of doing so, activating the system at idle should cause the engine run rough at idle, if there is no effect on the engine the VVTi is not activated and the problem may be the OCV.

Have a 2001 toyota avalon xls. P1354 manufacturer's control code comes up--engine light is on. Does this have to do with oil pressure??

P1354 is VVT system malfunction bank 2. VVT it Variable Valve Timing. Your ECM controls 2 OCVs (Oil Control Valves) which corrects engine valve timeing for driving conditions. there is a possibility that a pice of debrise has plugged the oil passage in the Bank 2 OCV. If you do not maintain good oil health ( changing your oil and oil filter regularly ) oil will sludge and harden in areas. a pice of this can become dislodged and travel through your oil system and cause a blockage in the system. Other possibilities are, Faulty wireing to the OCV, Faulty OCV, or Faulty ECM

Trouble code meanings for 2000 toyota avalon

the bank 1 is in the front of your car close to the radiator, the other one is the bank 2. I think you have to replace the bank 1 and bank 2 sensor and the po115 is the coolant temperature sensor, after you replace all these sensors and have the machanic reset or turn off the CHECK ENGINE light. check with the emmission inspector before you begin to replace all these parts. good luck
