Is it an automatic? if yes use dexron III or use synthetic oil for it if it's a standerd transmission it will depend on weather conditions in your area. Colder climates use lighter grade of oil. So let me know if you have a standard and I can give you the oil viscosity.

don't be surprised if there is no gasket there
during manufacture , they use adhesive sealant on properly machined surfaces
the bolts could be a bit loose
cost will be the quotes you get from accredited specialist transmission shops but don't be surprised it they include removing the power train ( engine / transmission to do the job as that may be the quickest way to do it

This problem is usually caused when the transfer solenoid/valve assembly goes bad, it's located in the transmission extension housing & needs to be replaced. it can be done without removing the transmission.

I cant find the transmission fluid on 1990 legacy

If you mean the rear diff its actually in the rear diff axle where you refill it.On the back axle there's 2 nuts rhe top being the refill and the bottom being the drain plug. You have to get underneath the car for this.Lots of hassle if you dont have a ramp
