I took my car to Wal Mart to get the oil changed. I didn't notice any issues on the way home, but the next morning the transmission was slipping badly. I have owned the car for 6 years and never had an issue. Is it possible that the transmission issue is related to the oil change? Thanks.

Did they add to the transmission fluid? It takes a special type.

Make sure the transmission oil level is ok. Low oil level will cause an automatic transmission to slip. This would have nothing to do with changing the engine oil.

I would have the transmission check if you plan on keeping the car a long time. The lucas oil is an additive for the oil. The additive is making the fluid a little heavier and tricking the soleniods or clutch and bands with a different pressures.

This is a temporary fix. The transmission over time is going to start to slip more and more.

I tried to get wal-mart to change my oil but they said that they couldn't do it because the screw or thread didn't fit the filter. Could you tell me what size screw/thread I need for my car.

Your standard drain plug on your vehicle shows to be a M15-1.5 mm. This basically means that the size is metric 15 and the thread pitch is 1.5millimeters. The oil filter that came on your car is an equilalent to a Fram PH-3600 or other filter such as STP-3600.

Wal-Mart is famous for not wanting to service vehicles if any item looks out of place. I assume they do not want the headaches if they run into a leak or damage. We get alot of these cases at the shop.

I would suggest letting a mechanic or shop look at your filter and drain plug if you are not sure. If there is damage to your drain plug then oversize plugs are available.

Good Luck and let me know how you come out!!

Can the truck be driven at all? I would never get the tranny oil replaced if the tranny is working ok. Quite often when this pocedure is done the problems start. All you have to do is pull the tranny dipstick and smell the oil on the stick. If the oil smells burnt, that is a good indication of problems. If not and the truck can be driven I would be going somewhere else. I had a 2002 Yukon that needed an engine. Used engine with 40,000 Klics at an auto recycle shop was 800 bucks. $300 to get it installed including A/C charging. How much does the shop want to rebuild the trans.? Better not be more than my engine replacement anyway call around and get some opinions and advice. Good luck

No, and add some Trans X slip stop and leak stop, sold by K and W. about 16 ounces, this really helped my Forester, as a lot of them have this issue with the clutch pack in the tranny. sold at most auto parts stores and Wal Mart. take care.

Transaxle... How to check and change fluids on 91 Toyota Corolla

Toyota uses Dex III ATF. You can buy from Wal-Mart:

1) Cheaper: Super Tech DEX III ATF $10/gal
2) Better: Valvoline MaxLife DEX/MER ATF $18/gal

Both are compatible, depending on how much you care about your car and how deep your pockets are :)

To check ATF fluid, look for an orange/red color dipstick (similar to the yellow dipstick for engine oil). You need to have the car in running temperature, shift through from Park, N, D, ... then back to D, N, Park (stopping for a few seconds in each gear). Then go to measure your fluid level.

If you haven't check it ever, it might be pale brown, which may look clean to you, but very deceivingly... becaue it should look red-ish / pinkish. When chemicals broken down in ATF, the red-ish color disappears. It may even be brown and smell burnt, that just mean your transmission is not in a very good shape.

If you do change the ATF, it's good to put a bottle of Lucus Oil brand "STOP SLIP / TRANSMISSION FIX" in it during your fluid change. It is a 24oz. bottle cost about $12 @ Wal-Mart or any auto stores. It will extend your transmission's life regardless. I highly recommend that.
