hi Justine. There some moments when the steering wheelbecomes stiff and hard to turn. From irregular servicing, lack of fluid oil to low tyre pressure or bad wheelalignment, any of these could be the cause. ... Under normal circumstances when the car is in good condition, the steering wheel is always flexible when turning.11 Sep 2014
Hi There! TAke a look at this site:
I found this: Steering / Electrical Power System:
"this technical bulletin provides a procedure to inspect the steering gear for a normal condition of grease or sealant on exterior case of gear due to the manufacturing process."
On this site there was one person who had stiff steering but the wheel wells got full of snow. https://www.vehiclehistory.com/vehicle-problems/searching1.php?reloaded=1
stopped in drive, engine shook is gross missing.
the belt snapped on front of engine, causing PS assist to end.
time for a new belt.
they last about 50,000 miles, best is to keep eye on belts.
or can be a long walk home.
or very expensive tow job.
the bent runs many important things, do not run the engine like this.
1. leak in your power steering liquid. check your power steering liquid reservoir if its still on the recommended level. if not, have your power steering assembly serviced. 2. busted ball joints. ball joints are located in the wheel axel, right behind your front wheels. this needs immediate attention to avoid further damages to your car.
the steering wheel gets stiff, because the car died and your power steering pump is stopped. beeing a 1994, you may have a fuel pump issue (nissan had campaign on those), but most likely no longer available to you, because of the age of the car. they purge campaigns out as years go on. you could have an issue with distributor. oil leaks pass the seal and gets inside of the distributor assembly on the signal plate (internal component of distribitor) and messes with the ignition system/spark plugs. you may also have a broken intake gasket. When was the last time you did a tune up?? changed plugs, fuel filter and so on???
Sounds like the serpentine bellt has come off the drive pulleys. this belt is the link between the crankshaft pulley and all the other pulleys. it drives the power steering pump, a/c compressor, and your alternator.
Stiff steering due to no Power steering pump activity and the battery light is on due to the alternator not charging the battery and supplying power to vehicle components.
Sounds like you may have a problem with the power steering pump. Notorious for these pumps shaft to break, causing "armstrong" power steering. As far as the 4wd low problem, ick.
the problem could be contamination in ps fluid.i would flush the system and replace fluid first .if that does not solve the pronlem you most likely need power steering pump. the steerjng box is very unlikely.
