Your feeling what Nissan refers to as limp mode (also known as fail safe ) Nissan computer strategy is when its detects a computer sensor (that could cause engine damage)has failed,or your engine for any other reason is running in a way that could cause severe engine damage is to make your engine run at limited rpm until the concern is repaired,I would assume your check engine light must be on, if not the bulb in the dash may be bad, anyways the best route is to have the engine control module scan for trouble codes which will get you headed in the right direction.

I have a 2000 nissan frontier v6 that is spitting and sputtering when driving.

no VIN posted or country and means ,impossible to know this.:
he Nissan Frontier is a nameplate used on two different pickup truck models by Nissan: VG30 V6???
VG33 V6???
the Nissan here has a cam timing belt, if allowed to slip at 60 to 100kmiles the engine is wrecked, valves in the cyl. head bend!

so do you ignore this belt>? if yes it will get worse. $$$$$$$$$$$$
do not disconnect the map, and leave it like this, ever.
forget evap code until engine is fully serviced.
all Nissan's are interference engine,<< belt never IGNORE
1: check the cam belts for fray, cracked or skipped time.
2: new spark plugs (before o2, fuel cannot burn with bad spark.)
3: check fuel pressure to spec, FPR can be bad. and low pressure.
4: pulling map can kinda hid a bad FPR, if pressure is low.
5: new distributor timed wrong. as most noobs do,
6: clogged 1/2way injectors.

1995pontiac,firebird6cyl,sputters at 2000rpm

When you say "sputters at 2000 rpm" , are you referring to ANY time the engine is at 2000 rpm - meaning in Park, when you are just goosing the throttle, or in gear when you are accelerating, or at highway speed in high gear? If you are experiencing a "shuddering" in the engine at certain speeds/rpms - especially if these are speeds you regularly cruise at (long commutes at steady speeds), the problem could be in the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). They have a tendency to wear unevenly if you drive a certain steady speeds. Eventually, the problem would progress to an engine code, but it may occur without setting the check engine light.

Truck starts fine and idles ok. spits and sputters at 2000 to 2500 rpms and will not rev over 2500 rpms. i've already replaced the MAF sensor.

CLOGGED FUEL FILTER OR CLOGGED FUEL INJECTORS.WILL CAUSE SPUTTERING AND MISFIRE.LEAKING EGR VALVE WILL CAUSE ROUGH IDLING SPUTTERING.

Check engine light is on and now the truck is spitting and sput

i would take it back. they should cover it. sounds like mass air flow sensor. if it was barelly detailed it water might of seeped into the intake thus sucking small amount of water which then causes sputtering and a little lack of power.

Engine problem

could be the EGR valve stuck open. Do you have a check engine light on? If yes then drive it to Advance Auto Parts and they wil check it out free of charge and tell you what code has come up on your car's computer
