SRS Airbag Light

I experienced the same type of issue with my Corolla and I took it in and turned out it was a connection that had come loose. Also, check to see if there are any recalls for your airbags or sensors. That was another issue that mine had.

Airbag light stays on when the system has detected a fault and switched the system off. Sometimes it isn't an airbag light but an SRS (supplemental restraint system) light that also includes seatbelts and seatbelt pretensioners.

You will need to have a fault code reading done by someone with knowhow and some suitable equipment.

Airbag Service Reset Tools

Find the fuse panel cover in the foot well on the driver's side of the vehicle. Pull down on it to open it.
Find a yellow connector inside the fuse panel. Pull out this connector. This is the airbag power connector, also called the SRS power connector.
Insert one end of the paperclip into one terminal of the SRS power connector and insert the other end of the paperclip into the other terminal.
Put the key into the ignition and turn on the vehicle, making sure you don't start the engine. The paperclip shorts out the SRS light, thus resetting and turning it off. Plug the SRS power connector back into the fuse panel. Put the cover back on the fuse panel and shut off the vehicle.
Wait a couple of minutes, then turn the engine on. Look on the instrument panel to ensure that the SRS light has turned off. Turn off the engine and remove the keys from the vehicle.

The supplemental restraint system (SRS) warning light is most commonly known as the airbag system light. This is a computer controlled system .
When the vehicle is first started, the SRS light should come on for 1 to 5 seconds while the system goes through a self-test sequence. If the light goes out, then the system is ready. If the light stays on, there is a fault somewhere in the SRS system.
if the light won't come on at all, the coputer system needs to be checked out.

Only a compatible scanner is going to turn this off.Don't try to do it yourself, as with any air bag/srs (supplemental restraint system), these units contain what amounts to an explosive charge, and if not handled properly, by trained folks, they can very easily cause death, ansd a nasty one at that.As long as the system detects a snag, it will continue to turn that light back on, even if you do get it turned off. The system does a circuit check soon after the car is started, on this system, and the only way to turn off that light is to fix it. Could be as simple as a clockspring, so have it checked. This is one of the only things that I'm not really willing to give much info on, due to the potential for disaster. Sorry, it's just the old grease monkey looking out for your safety. SRS-seatbelt response system, is a part of your airbag system and braking system, once you hit brakes very hard SRS makes sure that the belt is getting tight, in case of collision seatbelt gets stiff and the airbag blows up. SRS light coming on and staying for few seconds is fine as computer is checking the system, once it stays on or flashes you need top go to a garage as you might get a surprise blow in the face by the airbag.

WARNING the airbag system doesn't work when SRS illuminates

If the seat belt light comes on intermittently with the belt buckled, it may have a bad switch in the buckle or a loose connection @ the switch. This may also set a diagnostic trouble code in the srs control module & keep the srs airbag light on.

The light is on to indicate a fault in the airbag system, the light will remain on until the fault is repaired, also understand as long as the SRS waring indicator is on the airbag system is disabled
