As you've already realised, this is serious. The engine is more than likely totally shot. Maybe a broken valve and punched a hole in a piston. Broken piston rod maybe. It's been overheated and also probably blown the head gasket and warped a head. You're looking at a complete engine re-build already. I think I'd just buy a rebuilt long block and start fresh.
Thats what Ive been told and surmised. I was afraid of that, what am I looking at in price? Because the engine was supposed to be completely rebuilt I have the reciept from the previous owner who got charged 2150.47 for a complete engine overhaul. I bought the truck of him while I was in Iraq. It sat for 7 months at my dad's house. He started it and let run for 15 mins every friday. I get home and it ran great for about a week, then just driving down the road one day 12 miles from my house, one minute everything was great the next, there was a pop, it started knocking really bad, and gauges all went awry, oil pressure dropped, heat went up, it was horrible. I love this truck. But from the looks of things, ugh. I just need to get some price estimates now, on time/cost to fix, OR cost to replace the block. Thank you for your time it's greatly appreciated.
Hey no problem, glad to help. Yes that price sounds about right for a rebuild. But that's one of the problems when someone rebuilds a blown engine. Unless they go completely through it all the way down to every last bearing and tolerance, all it takes is for them to get one thing wrong or just say, oh I don't have to replace the mainshaft bearings, they should be fine and they skip it. Then the thing just fails again before it gets 1000 miles on it. That's why I feel it's better to go with a factory longblock and start fresh. Here's a site that sells them. One thing was looking at. Was the Rod bearings. On the 3rd set, when i got to looking the rod itself was really loose (Also found out it was the cause of the knocking noise) but there was NO rod bearing...at all. So I was wandering if new rod bearings were installed(which they were) if they werent put in properly or not tight enough, could they have over lapped and be shredded..thus the cause of the the metal pieces in the oil? Because all of the other ones have bearings except for this one and its whats making that god awfull knocking sound. Going to take the covers off tomorrow, and get down to the piston thats on that rod to see what the damage is there.
