How many quarts of oil go in a 1998 jeep grand cherokee with a 5.2 liter 318 engine??

The Jeep 4.0 takes appx 5 quarts of engine oil.

Use in temperatures above 0 degrees: Castrol GTX High Mileage 10W-30 / 5 quarts + Jug
Use in temperatures below 61 degrees: Pennzoil Premium Motor Oil 5W-30 / 5 quarts + Jug

All I've seen hold six quarts.

4.0 Liter Engine (SAE 10W-30, API Certified Engine Oil)
4.7, 4.7HO Liter Engine (SAE 5W-30, API Certified Engine Oil)

i buy the 5 quart jug i drain it all fill it with about 4 quarts start it let it run for about 30 seconds then shut off wait 5 minutes check oil fill as needed. then remember how many quarts it took. there 4.0 v6 is usualy 5 quarts. but do as stated to be for sure. then you have the empty jug to put used oil in for recycle.

5.5 quarts of oil

6 quarts of oil, including filter.

its your valve lash thats clicking. make an oil change and put some oil treatment. if it still exist, adjust your valve lash.

If your vehicle has the 5.2 liter,aka 318 cubic inch engine,there is only one transmission model applicable and it is the 42 RE which used to be designated the A500.It is a 4speed overdrive transmission.If installing a rebuilt trans and new remanufactured dry torque convertor.You add 4 quarts initially,then fire the engine and add another 5-6 quarts for a total capacity of 9-10 quarts.Fluid level is checked with the trans in Neutral.If you are only dropping the pan,you will replace roughly 4 quarts.The transfer case fills separately,but uses the same automatic transmission fluid.Capacity for the transfer case is about 2 quarts/fill to the bottom of the fill plug hole.Good luck.
