Possibly fan clutch or clogged radiator/condensor.
To check for fan clutch, hook up A/C gauges, turn a/c on watch high side gauge. 300 psi. and above run water on condensor, if psi. goes down to about 250 psi and holds. replace fan clutch.
If not, check radiator/condensor for dibris outside, and or corrosion inside the radiator.

The most common reason for running hot at idle is the radiator fan is not running or pulling enough air thru the radiator. If you have a fan for the engine and one for the ac, the engine fan may not be working. The radiator fan should come on when the coolant reaches 220 degrees. The computer sends a signal to the fan relay.
The AC puts allot of heat load on the engine so of course it will run hotter but not overheat the engine, if that happens you may have a clogged radiator.
The cooling fans won't run until either the engine coolant temperature reaches about 218 degrees or the air conditioner/defroster are on. Once the engine reaches appx 218 degrees the fan will come on and run until the coolant temperature drops a few degrees and will then turn back off. If either the a/c or defrost are turned on then the cooling fan will begin to run to remove the heat from the a/c system and should stay on until either is turned off. If the engine is overheating in slow or stop and go traffic then the fan may not be working at all due to a bad fan motor or blown fuse.
check battery usually indicates alternator failure. Check voltage at battery with engine running. Should be at least 14 volts. If you don't have a voltmeter, remove the alternator and take it to the parts store for testing. Let me know if you need instructions.
For the air conditioner, is the compressor running? how long has the air been hot? could it be low on refrigerant?
Could be a number of things...electrical connections causing the compressor not to run. Turn on AC and turn your thermostat all the way to cool...now visually check to see if compressor is engaged and not just free wheeling. Most likely you lost your refridgerant due to leak in the system...would need to find leak and repair then have your system re-charged with refridgerant. Best case scenario...your system just needs a charge of refridgerant due to not having enough.
The fans only run when the engine reaches approxminatly 235 degrees F. on the guage that is near the end of scale just before guage show "HOT" I don't think you have a problem, allot of folks out there don't know about this.
