FORD ESCAPE EMISSION CONTROL WARNING LIGHT PROBLEM: I have a Ford Escape XLT, 6 cylinder, 2002 model, and the above warning light comes on, on the dash. The problem is, that it only comes on after the car has been started, but once this light is on, it says on for a long period of time. I have been advised by a mechanic that it could be the Oxygen Sensors, so I have had these two replaced, but this light still comes on. Do you agree with the opinion of this mechanic, or do you think it could be something else? The car has done over 200,000 kms. Thanks

There is a problem being logged into your computer for the light to be on. Take a little advise and check your local parts stores for a code reader. Some parts stores will hook to your car with their reader and tell you the problem. If the mechanic did not hook to your car with an OBD II reader, then he is just guessing what is wrong. There are a lot of sensors that cause this light to go on. This will effect the drivability of your car too. So in short, I do not agree with this mechanic if he did not hook your car up to a ODB II reader/scanner.

Where is the MAP sensor location on my Ford Escape XLT 6 cylinder 2009?

It is plugged into the intake manifold. There is an emissions sticker under the hood that shows the vacuum hose routing. The MAP sensor should be shown on that.

check for correct oil level in the sump first
this indicates insufficient oil level and the surge of the oil when stopping is allowing air into the pump and putting the light on

FORD ESCAPE EMISSION CONTROL WARNING LIGHT PROBLEM: I have a Ford Escape XLT, 6 cylinder, 2002 model, and the above warning light comes on, on the dash. The problem is, that it only comes on after the car...

look at the fuel cap, make sure the rubber is good ans not cracked and has no dirt build up on it, if it does clean it good. While you are there check the filler neck where the cap fits make sure it is smooth and not rusty, if it is, clean it good. the vehicle will randomly run a evap test checking for a vacuum build up in the tank if it does not sense the vacuum it will put on the light and it will stay on until it runs the test and the vehicle passes the test. That it the reason there are signs at the gas station that say shut off your vehicle when fueling. make sure the cap is on properly and on tight before leaving.

Hello! No, I disagree...The warning light is the Check Engine Light (CEL)...When it comes on it is the computer telling you that a trouble code/codes have been stored...There is a lengthy list of codes...Take the vehicle to an auto parts store and have them run a scan (done for free) to find the code that is setting the warning light...Oxygen sensors as well as many, many other sensors will set a trouble code if faulty...There are 4 Oxygen sensors not 2 on your vehicle...In many instances the O2 sensor fault is an effect not a cause...Lets find out what the trouble code is before jumping to an expensive conclusion...Send a comment when you have the code...Guru...saailer
