I have a 2006 Jeep GrandCherokee Laredo. When driving down the road before it hits 40mph. and between 1.5 and 2rpm's it starts to shudder, like it is not getting enough gas. then the other day the check engine light came on and it would not turn over. Checking the battery gave us 12volts, and everything else worked fine, just would not start, until we tapped on the starter. After that it starts right up fine now. the only code we could get was OU404, but the Check engine light has gone off, so we cant get any other info. I am wondering what the problme could be?

I would check to be sure that the timing chain hasn't jumped at all ..

does it have fuel pressure? the test port is on the top of the engine in the fuel supply rail to the fuel injectors.

On an intermittent start problem like this you may be having a starter solenoid issue or your wire on the starter from the key switch may be loose. Or you may have a corroded battery cable or the safety neutral switch may be going bad. Is it a automatic? If it were it would be the clutch safety switch going out. So do the simple things first. Clean cables like the first guy said if that does not fix it locate the starter and if you have jumper cables the next time it does it put the positive lead of the jumper cable on the Positive battery terminal and the other touch to the starter wire with the key in the run position where the big wire on the starter is, if you here it spin it means the starter motor is ok if it don't it is bad or the connection on the starter is loose. Also a bad battery cable could cause this from the battery to the starter next put a small wire into the end of the positive jumper cable and touch the S terminal on the starter if you here a solid clung it means the solenoid is good. So check the connections on the starter and tighten the starter bolts as they may have worked loose and don't have a good ground. You can tow just about anything with anything if you have the right gearing. BUT, Your limit is set by the kind of hitch (class rating) you are going to use. I use a simple rule of not towing anything more than double the weight of the vehicle you are pulling with. In towing heavy loads you will need an electric trailer braking system, stabilizer bars, lighting harness addition (applies overall...some require an add on module additional to wiring to prevent system damage), heavy duty radiator and an external transmission cooler. (also, more frequent trans fluid changes, best to use synthetics)
If you will be towing on a regular basis, I'd also look into getting the "police package" in regards to sway bars and shocks (all around) as it helps with control.
