Simply line-up the two timing marks, mount the belt, and try starting the vehicle. If the vehicle fails to start or backfires, remove the belt and rotate the cam sprocket ONE FULL TURN, then re-mount the belt. MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE NOT ONE TOOTH OFF ONCE YOU MOUNT THE TIMING BELT (THE MARKS SHOULD STILL MEET EXACTLY).

2. Remove the crankshaft vibration damper.
3. Remove the generator drive belt tensioner assembly.
4. Remove the timing belt front cover bolts, and remove the covers.

rear cover

1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
2. Remove the front covers.
3. Remove the timing belt.
4. Hold the camshaft sprocket with Special Tool 6847, or equivalent, while removing the center bolt.
5. Remove the timing belt idler pulley.
6. Remove the rear cover fasteners and remove the cover from engine.

well I think its around 60,000 miles for most vehicles but if it is going bad, i would change it asap! but it verys from vehicle to vehicle. If you have the owners manual for your vehicle, it should detail when the belt should be changed.

Removal & Installation

1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Remove the engine splash shield.
3. Rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise to release the drive belt tension.
4. Remove the drive belt from the alternator.
5. Slowly release the drive belt tensioner.
6. Remove the drive belt from the accessory drive pulleys.

To install:

1. Install the drive belt to the accessory drive pulley.
2. Rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise.
3. Install the drive belt to the alternator.
4. Ensure the drive belt is properly aligned and seated into the grooves of the accessory drive pulleys.
5. Slowly release the drive belt tensioner
6. Install the engine splash shield.
7. Lower the vehicle.

All vehicles have either a timing belt or a chain. In your particular vehicle it would be a belt and it would probably be a good idea to replace it, however, if you don't have the money at this time, I would have it checked to see if there is anything wrong with it. The timing belt for that particular vehicle will probably be fairly high because of the engine size. Note: It is recommended that a vehicle's timing belt should be inspected every 30,000 miles. It doesn't have to be replaced unless something is wrong with it.
