Hi,

No your escort has a clutch cable, it is on the year change point between shapes but if it is the older shape then you have what is called a ratchet and pawl mechinism for self adjustment of the cable, these are however prone to failure and not the easiest job to change. If you have a later shape escort then your clutch cable is adjust by means of a 6mm allen head type screw on the clutch pedal.

Hope this helps

John

Adjust the clutch

If I'm not mistaken, in the early 90's the auto manufacturers started going to a hydraulic clutch. Unfortunately, those type of clutches are not adjustable. You will probably need to at least rebuild, if not, replace the clutch.

Where is the clutch hydraulic reservoir on a 1993 ford escort lx?

The clutch and brake system use the same reservoir, there is a hose coming out from the side of the reservoir that goes over to the clutch master cylinder. Sometimes the brake fluid level goes low as brake pads wear and lowers the fluid level too low to work the clutch. Hope this helps, let me know.

Car will move foward even when clutch is depressed. I just had the clutch replace for this very problem and now it is doing it again 3 days later. The car is a 93 Ford Escort with the 1.9L engine

I can't remember if this vehicle has a clutch cable or it's hydraulic. It sounds like a problem with the clutch control not the clutch itself

I have a 1998 ford escort cx wagon, the clutch has broke..is it possible it could be the cable? does it have a cable? or is it a hydraulic clutch? or would I need to replace the clutch? :-)

Hi!
There may be a possibility the cable has snapped, however Ford used a ratchet and pawl set up on the Escort which is made of plastic! when it reaches its full tension (Self Adjusting) it can break leaving you with a baggy soppy floppy clutch pedal. So a clutch replacement is NOT required!
If the cable has broken you should be able to see from under the Bonnet/hood as it is situated on top of the gearbox Bell housing. Again a Clutch is NOT needed.
Hope this sorts it?

1998 ford escort van,deasel

Escort Van? Never saw one. Best thing to do is get on www.partsamerica.com and type in your vehicle info. Choose the clutch section and you will see cable or hydraulic. I've never seen it with both listed.
