2000 new beetle, gas door does not open with button, only with manual remote cable, the back hatch does not open with button or key fob, only with key inserted in tumblers. Is by bcu bad? Fuses are OK and click is noted in back hatch mechanism when button pushed.
Also, AC compressor not kicking on. Under dash fuses are OK. Some power is getting to compressor about 5.8 volts but not switched on and off with ac button. Good ground from compressor to body. Has refridgerant in system. Blower works and ac switch makes audible click. What to check next? Thanks Clint
The first problem with you fuel door is most likely the rear actuating motor or cable. remove the right rear trunk lining, and loosen the 2 silver phillips head screws, and remove the actuating motor. i would suggest replacing both the motor and the cable, as both of these parts have superceeded to a new improved part. the AC problem is caused by a faulty fan control unit. this part not only receives the switch signal and processes the information to control the compressor, but also controls the fans, their speed, the compressor, and the hi/lo pressure switch. both of these parts a a common problem for the beetle.
I had that same problem, door locks, trunk and gas tank lid did not open/unlock. The mechanic replaced the module in the driver side door that controlled all of that....now everything works. Try that!!
With regard to the AC, the problem may be the control unit, but it could also be the fuse connectors on top of the battery. If this is the problem, the fuses will look fine, but when you remove them you may notice the connectors are burnt. I was able to get my AC to work just by removing the fuses, turning them around, and then reinserting them. You may need to replace the connectors however.
Oh My God... I love you guys... 2003 GTI VR6.. AC quit working. Intermittent problem. Finally stopped altogether. Added coolant. No help. Noticed there the compressor was not engaged (when I finally found it). Found this article and problem solved. Removed fuse compartment on top of battery. Three small fuses to the right. left most fuse. Sprayed contact cleaner but showing obvious arc damage. Restated and was getting compressor engaging on and off. Remove burnt fuse.. Compressor goes off (obviously controlling compressor clutch). Put in new fuse ... Problem solved.... Thanks Very Much. This GTI is my sons first car and a labor of love for me. I am very grateful....

1998 VW Beetle. AC&Heating. I have no power or air coming out at all when you turn it on. I tried to check the fuses, however, it's so darn hard to figure out which is which. I believe this is a power issue. Can anyone help me please?
