Clarence,
your mini-cooper may just need a new thermostat. if the thermostat in your car is the original, then 4 years is a goodly amount of time for any thermostat to last. Thermostats fail in 2 ways: (A) stuck open, which causes engine to warm really slowly, and (b) stuck closed, causing overheating and
causing the heater to blow cold air - since the heated coolant can't get past the closed thermostat to
circulate through the heater core (a small radiator-like device used to heat the interior of your car).
Your car's thermostat has failed in mode (B).
Your cost: $5-$15 at any auto parts store.
Project complexity: any handy person could teach themselves to replace a thermostat.

I'm having the same problem. Where is the thermostat located? I'm going to try to replace it myself.

    I found a how-to reply at www.edmunds.com at URL:http://answers.edmunds.com/question-Any-...

my ususal sourses at www.autozone.com came up dry.

Apparently the thermostat in the 2006 mini-cooper is located behind the intake filter housing (aka air filter housing). Unbolt the air filter housing, remove the electrical connector from the MAP sensor, unscrew the MAP sensor, and you're ready to disconnect the upper rad hose and then unbolt the thermostat. In general, on all cars, the thermostat is located on the engine side of the upper radiator hose. The upper rad hose conducts (hot) 50/50 coolant mix from the upper part of the engine (from just under the head), thru the (open when hot) thermostat, to the top of the radiator - the 06 mini-cooper is no exception. So now you mini-cooper car mechanics can locate the thermostat on any car.

This may help, also use a hose to flush the pipes to the heater matrix, disconnect both of them first and flush both ways.

Mini cooper 2007,heater does not blow warm air

The cable to the water valve that allows hot water from cooling system to circulate the heating part may be stuck or broken or the valve itself may be stuck. The cable may also have slipped and become too loose so it won't operate properly, last alternative is an air lock in the water system

2003 Mini Cooper overheats and heater blows cold air. What can I do?

Sounds like a stuck closed thermostat not letting coolant circulate and overheating engine while not letting hot coolant flow through heater core .

Hi the garage has just charged the alternator on our 2004 Mini Cooper as the battery light was coming on. The heater was working fine and blew hot air prior to this. The heater is now blowing only cold air...

Ask garage if they removed and water hoses to swap alternator.Needs proper bleeding after draining. Minis prone to water loss and overheats...dont drive till sorted...got a 59 plate cooper in workshop now...needing full engine due to overheats. Very important to bleed properly and pressure test to ensure no leake ( usually fron thermostat housing.

2006 mini w/ 30k miles. when stopped, temp gauge shoots up to the red zone. when i start driving again, it drops back down. also, unsure if related, but heat will not blow hot. what could it be?

most likely is going to be a bad thermostat. when you are moving cold air comes through the grill cooling engine but when you stop you don't have that air and thermostat is not allowing flow causing overheating.

Overheating

Posible thermastat sticking closed. If thermastat doesn't open heated water is trapped in the engine causing it to run hot and not allowing hot water to travle to the heater core when called for.
