Service engine soon & brake light stays on

Both the service engine soon light & brake light stays on all the time. All fluids are good and the car runs good. Had FlowMasters put on last year and this is when the service engine soon light came on. The brake light came on about 6 mths ago.

The service engine light is prob due to the oxygen sensor being damaged, not replace or you having the catalytic converter taken off---just messing with you. start at auto zone and have then do a free code read then go from there. you should troubleshoot the low fluid level switch for your brake fluid. unplug it and see if the light goes off and if it doesn't jump the two terminals on the harness. oh the car will have to be running. Brake light problem

Have you checked your brake fluid lately? If you're not low on fluid, I'd strongly suggest you take your car in for service, or to somebody who knows what they're doing. Don't sidestep brake problems.

I have a 1999 Nissan Altima and my Brake light just came on recently, my question is where do I check for brake fluid? Where is it located at?

the brake fluid reservoir is on the drivers side of the engine back by the firewall. I believe the cap is yellow and should say brake fluid or DOT3 or something simular. Use only DOT3 or DOT4 brake fluid from a sealed container.

You can also consult your owners manual to find it.

Do i need to use Honda brake fluid, or will any good DOT3 fluid be ok?

Any DOT3 fluid is fine. If its low enough to turn the light on, brake service may be needed. Its engineered so that the brake fluid level will go down until the light comes on, then its time for brake service. So if you fill it up, the light will never come on and the brakes will be worn past the limits without any warning.

Why is my service soon light keep coming on when i have changed the oil and put new plugs.it has 120,000 miles. do i need to do more?

im guessing that the service engine light is comming on and off instead of staying on all of the time. these service lights come on for a long list of things. this is the time of year when we tend to use all of the power option in our cars. light wipers heater ect it is also this time of year that we find out how good our charging system is working and how good our batteries are. control voltage in most vehichles is between 12.5vdc and 14vdc check engine lights can come on when your control voltage falls below this given level. warning lights could be caused by a sticking thermistat. the difference in temperature from hot water in to cooler fluid out of the radiator should be roughly 6 degrees from top to bottom higher or lower ranges may cause this to light up the check engine light. and there are a host of other minor things that will make the light come on and off. washer fluid levels, brake fluid level being low but not fatal. a missfiring plug at a certain rpm due to carbon build up inside the distributor cap. alot of genaral maintinace type things create this onand off scenario.

Hi, my name is John i have a 1995 Pontiac SE v-6 3.1 recently my service engine soon light came on but gos off some times and stays on some times checked my fluid levels and wire connections all seen ok.

When the service engine soon light goes on any car, it's a good idea to have the car's computer scanned.

Your car has an OBD-I system which is older, and so you must find someone with an OBD-I scanner who can read the codes off and maybe find a clue.

I would start there. Some codes may be recorded in the memory.

A service light is staying on. its a yellow light with a wrench

That is you service vehicle soon light. It will come on if a exterior light is out or the service engine light doesn't work. Check all you lights and (parking and head lights) and you fluid levels. Check high and low beams and day time running lights.

Engine light on...now brake light on and will not go off

Dear Debra:

Your vehicle’s computer system has self-testing capability. When the computer senses that there is a problem with some of the components it stores the correspondent trouble code(s) in its memory and lights up the "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon" light to tell you that there is a problem and you will need to have the car diagnosed and repaired. The red brake light comes on for two reasons, the fluid level is at the minimum level or the parking brake is engaged. Take it to a service center you trust and let them inspect it very soon, brakes are a safety issue. Hope this helps you.
