Don't know if your battery was the issue or not, but I just bought an '02 Forester, the security light blinked steadily any time the key was not in either 'start' position or car was running.
I discovered that the system had been set to 'valet mode' prior to my purchase or I accidentally set it in the first couple days... The fix was easy, laid out in the owner's manual.

Your battery is probably low. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Put the key in the ignition. Turn it to the on position. Then reconnect the negative battery cable. That should clear the security lights.

My wife has a 1998 Subaru Forrester. Today we changed the battery. Now, the hazard lights will not go off. Why, and how do I fix this issue?

Under dash by left knee is a 4" x4" box with a small wire on it. On the end of the wire is a small button. Push the button to reset. That sure cure your flashing marker lights. Good luck and have a great day.

2002 outback subaru security light is flashing 2 times on panel.

I think the car may be set to valet mode. It's been a while so I don't remember exactly how to change it. If you have the key fob that is sorta square with an orange and a blue button I think you hold the blue button down for 3 seconds or until the alarm light flashes or something to that effect. Check your owners manual for the instructions or drop by a dealer and they should be able to show you how to do it.

You can try getting the top end clean which includes cleaning the throttle body and chemicaly cleaning the carbon from the back of the valves and the intake runners. You could also try changing the Knock Sensor.
