I have a 1999 gmc suburban and it waz doing same thing. I changed out the plastic socket plate and had to wiggle the new connectors into working but after a few tries it worked and is still working today 1 year or more later.

SOURCE: I have a 1996 Suburban that keeps blowing fuses on break lights

It sounds like you have a hot wire touching the body. Check & trace the brake hot wires from the rear lights back to the fuse block using a multimeter. Check for continuity between the hot and the body When you find it that wire needs repairing or replacing. It's probably somewhere that the wire has been rubbing against the body for sometime.

The 20 amp stop/haz fuse keeps blowing. I put a new one in but after using the brakes 18 to 24 times the fuse is blown. I noticed that the fus/circuit breaker box under the hood does not have a brake lamp...

Not easy to diagnose. Most probable cause is an intermittent short in the power wiring between the hazard module under the dash and the brake and center stop lights, or a problem with either that module or brake light switch on the pedal. I would start by inspecting the socket wiring and interior of the sockets on the rear light modules.

Brake light fuse keeps blowing in my 1997 Suburban only when towing trailers.

If the fuse blows on different trailers then it's all down to the vehicle. You either have incorrect wiring on the vehicle, a short OR the fuse is not of a high enough value to cope with the additional brake lights? You could try removing all the trailer bulbs EXCEPT the brake lights - e.g. if it's trying to power up the indicators too? That would stop the fuse blowing...... OR remove the brake bulbs from the vehicle & see if it operates the trailer without blowing...... Check the total wattage of ALL the brake lamps & see if the fuse is actually of a high enough rating? Be aware though that increasing the value of the fuse could cause damage elsewhere! As a rough guide a 25 watt bulb will pull around 2 amps at 12 volts - so 4 bulbs may pull up to 8 amps & clearly blow a 5 amp fuse! If in doubt take it to an auto electrician...... The wiring needs to be correctly protected!

Check the turn signal flasher, and the trailer wire adapter that plugs in under the rear of the truck.Check the brake light switch,to see if it is grounding out on something.

98 gmc suburban brake lights

One of two things cause this corroded or poor chassis earth at the bulb holders or the circuit board that holds the bulb is faulty.
