SOURCE: 97 mitsubishi eclipse transmission problems automatic 2.0

I have a 95 Eclipse and I recently had to change out my TCU........ Transmission Control Unit, This should be located directly beneath the center console. First I would have the transmission services if problem persist then proceed to changing out the TCU you can get off of ebay. As far as i know there should be 3 Computers in our cars. 1 the Electronic Control Unit located behind radio 2 Transmission Control Unit located under center console and 3 Airbag Control Unit located under hood, Hope this helps.

P0700 Transmission Control System Malfunction OBD-II Trouble Code Technical Description Article by Dale Toalston ASE Certified Technician Transmission Control System TCS Malfunction What does that mean? Many vehicles have a control module for the automatic transmission called a transmission control module (TCM). The engine control module (ECM) communicates with the TCM to monitor the automatic transmission for faults. If the TCM detects a fault in the automatic transmission and sets a transmission related fault code, the ECM is informed of this also and sets a P0700 in the ECM memory. This illuminates the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) to let the driver know there is a problem. If this code is present and the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) is illuminated that basically means there is at least one transmission code set in the TCM's memory. P0700 is an informational code only. It doesn't point to a direct fault in the engine, only a general fault in the transmission. More diagnosis is necessary to identify what the transmission fault is. This requires a scan tool that will communicate with the transmission module. Symptoms Symptoms of a P0700 DTC may include: Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination The transmission may exhibit drivability problems like slipping, etc. Causes More often then not, the cause of this code is that there is a transmission problem of some kind. The TCM detected the problem and set a code. P0700 means that a fault code is stored in the TCM. However this doesn't rule out the possibility of a failed PCM or TCM (unlikely). Possible Solutions For a P0700 the only real solution is to acquire a scan tool that will communicate with the transmission control module. Extracting this code from the TCM will be the first step in repairing the fault in the transmission. Code p0700 what is the cause.

Automatic transaxle fault code P0700 is a code that indicates that the transmission control module (TCM) has requested the powertrain control module (PCM) to turn on the check engine light to alert the driver that a problem has occurred in the automatic transmission. You now need to have the TCM scanned for fault codes to see what is going on and why the check engine light was requested. Reading the TCM codes requires a special scanner that all dealers have as well as transmission repair shops..

Check engine light is on code 700

Hi there:
DTC P0700 - Transmission Control System Malfunction

Symptoms of a P0700 DTC may include:
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination
The transmission may exhibit drivability problems like slipping, etc.

More often then not, the cause of this code is that there is a transmission problem of some kind. The TCM detected the problem and set a code. P0700 means that a fault code is stored in the TCM. However this doesn't rule out the possibility of a failed PCM or TCM (unlikely).

Possible Solutions: For a P0700 the only real solution is to acquire a scan tool that will communicate with the transmission control module. Extracting this code from the TCM will be the first step in repairing the fault in the transmission.

If the TCM compatible scan tool will not communicate with the Transmission Control Module then that is a good indication that there may be a fault with the TCM itself.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

I have 2 codes that I need help with its a 05 GMC 2500HD.. PO0700 PO0735

A p0700 is a general tranny code you need to have a scan of the tranny to find out what is wrong it will be electrical but needs a complete scan most of the time trany shops have a free diagnostic, this should also show up the p0735 number which is the 5th gear incorrect ratio so its more than likely to be an electrical rather than a mechanical fault....hope this helps

I have a 2000 golf 2.0 (automatic) it is not shifting properly. check engine light is on. when i drive @ 30-40mph it revs between 3-4rpm when usual it would be @ 2. what could this be?

the first thing i would do would be to check the trany fluid level, make sure engine is warm and then check, some of these vws dont have dip sticks to check the trany oil level, theres a procedure to check,so if yours doesnt have a dip stick you should take it somewhere and have the level checked and also check for leaks,if the trany oil is full then i would have the trany checked, also that check engine light may have something to do with the shifting problem, have the computer scanned, the codes will help you diagnose the problem, auto zone will scan it for free, there are other parts places that will also scan and give you a read out of the codes stored in the computer, hope this helps.

This code indicates that the EATX (Transmission controller) has an active fault and has illuminated the MIL via a BUS message. The specific fault must be acquired from the EATX via a DRBIII tool. (Input or Output Speed Sensor failures often cause this code and are a common failure part on WJ Grand Cherokees

Shift Solenoid circuit.
Note: If code P1767 (Transmission Relay Always On) is also present: Replace transmission solenoid assembly. See note provided. When transmission is in limp mode the relay that provides power to the solenoid group is switched off. This is normal and is designed to provide operation in one gear only. Engineering department suggests to replace transmission solenoid assembly anytime these two trouble codes occur together. See applicable service manual section (21) for solenoid assembly replacement directions. IMPORTANT: When performing this repair always check torque on all valvebody accumulator cover plate screws. Proper torque specification is 70 inch pounds. If any accumulator cover plate screws are damaged or missing replace the valvebody assembly. NOTE: If any other trouble codes are present do not replace solenoid assembly. See test in the applicable Transmission Diagnostic Procedures Manual
