Scan for check engine codes, sounds like you are having a misfire problem. Common causes include clogged fuel filter, weak fuel pump, worn out spark plugs, failing sensors, weak ignition coils or spark plug wires....etc.
IF VECHICLE HAS OVER 100000 MILES, REPLACE SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES,REPLACE AIR FILTER,CHANGE FUEL FILTER AND CLEAN FUEL INJECTORS.WEAK COILS MAKE CAR SKIP SPUTTER, IF ALL FAILS YOU HAVE LOW COMPRESSION WORN VALVES.
The spark and fuel system needs to be inspected.---------
The spark plugs are getting fouled or very loose, can cause sputtering problem.Inspect the spark plugs and coil packs. The spark plugs gets power from coil pack.If the spark plugs are very old and dirty, then it needs to be replaced.---------------
The **** problem also relates to faulty worn out spark plugs or clogged fuel filter or low fuel pressure or problem with ignition coil pack.-----------
When coil pack stops giving power to spark plug the car will **** while driving.----------
So very first thing you get tested is spark plugs and ignition coil packs. If they are tested good, but looks very dirty/ worn out, that can also be the reason.----------- But if spark plugs and ignition coil tested ok and cleaned properly, but still same problem, then get fuel pressure tested. If fuel pressure is low, the fuel pump and fuel filter are the cause of problem.-----------
------------------
Also one more thing, " IS there check engine light coming ON dash" ? If yes, then get the car scanned at autozone service center. Its absolutely free to get car scanned at autozone. They do it for no charge.-------
In scanning you will get error codes, as per error codes, it will point towards faulty part, causing this sputtering and jerking problem.-----------------
But if there is no check engine light ion dash, then get the above mentioned possibilities checked. That will help.Thanks.Helpmech.
You may want to change your rotor bug in distrubtor,If this don't work you may have bent or wornout shaft goig down from distrubutor inside motor. But if your getting fire to the coil but not the distrubtor i think the rotor bug will fix it. Good luck to you.
In adequete fuel pressure change the fuel filter, first depressurize the fuel line. run dry gas in the vehicle once a month. Check for OBD codes it may need a MAF sensor.
change plugs wires also .fill gas tank up put prestone or gum out fuel injector cleaner.drive car around several miles.give injector cleaner time to clean out injectors.wait until engine cool .change fuel filter.relief fuel pressure before changing fuel filter.
