From what Ive read, you its not possible to connect an iPhone to another cellphone via Bluetooth. You can only connect handsfree, speakers etc via the Bluetooth on the iPhone.

Hi. For the iPhone bluetooth, it can only connect on another iPhone device and not on any other devices. So that is the reason why you were not able to transfer contacts from your Nokia phone to the iPhone if you have been trying to transfer it using a bluetooth connection.
iPhones can only connect to other iPhones via bluetooth. And, the functionality is very limited too. You can only send pictures and videos to the other person via bluetooth.

the iPhone doesnt actually have the ability to send and recieve files from other phones. Its just for the headset ability. If your phone is Jailbroken you may find some programs out there that allows you to send and recieve messages and find other phones via Bluetooth. YES going on the internet without a DATA PLAN will cost you money. It depends on what carrier you are with, it will very on how much per kilobyte. You can not record videos unless you phone is jailbroken. Then you can download the ability to use the camera as a video recorder. Some of the programs are the following: Cycorder and 3G video recorder. Hope this helps!
Well if it is in discoverable mode then it should find your device. Well what you should do restart both of your devices your iPhone 3G and your Mac laptop that should resolve your problem.
