Turn your steering wheel left or right side. If it moves, then good for you. But if doesn't, it probably means that locking system in the steering wheel is damaged. For this, you can just turn the steering wheel opposite to the direction of the car wheels. Most of the time, cars are turned off with the wheels turned on the opposite directions, which makes the key get stuck in the ignition due to pressure in the steering wheel. When the pressure is released from the steering column, a click can be heard and key is released.

If no luck, there might be a problem with shifter mechanism, which means that you have a trip to the repair shop in store for you. Get this problem addressed immediately, as it could mean that your shift interlock is out of order, which can increase the chances of deploying the air bag up in your face, causing a serious injury.

SOURCE: key stuck in ignition

Try graphite...you can buy it powdered but it is also what makes up a pencil's 'lead'. You need to squish some in between the key and the lock it's in. Then wiggle the key as much as you can to work the graphite in (not too hard or the key will break!). If the problem is a stuck tumbler the graphite will unstick it.

SOURCE: Chevy Cobalt: key stuck in ignition

Had this problem with our 2006 Colbalt LS and it is the shifter. Key would not come out. Will have to replace the shifter. That's going to be a bill unless you have a powertrain warranty. Was over $600.-00 at the Chevy dealership we have to use.

SOURCE: my key is stuck in the ignition and won't come

Hi,
Sounds like your shifter mechanism is damaged, this is a problem I have been seeing lately with newer products, the shift interlock is not working, and will require a trip to the dealer, or a really good shop. The shifter will need to be disassembled, and there is a chance of deploying the airbag if not done correctly and the shifter is on the column, so please have it checked out by a professional. You can be seriously hurt in an airbag deployment.
It’s a relay between the shifter to the ignition switch went might have out.
Kindly let us know for any future assistance.
Thanks

Key will not turn in ignition

Occasionally, because of this lock, the steering wheel can get stuck, which in turnmeans the vehicle key also becomes stuck and cannot move to release it. "Jiggling" the steering wheel side to side while also attempting the turn the key can relieve this lock pressure and allow the key to turn.8 Jan 2016

I have a 95 camaro, I put the key in ignition and it will not turn the ignition. It's like it's stuck. Replaced the ignition module and still cannot turn ignition. Help!

the ignition module (ignition switch on top of the steering column) normally doesn't get stuck.

things you can try:
steering wheel lock: (the pin gets a "burr" on it and locks everything up) wiggle steering wheel back and forth while trying to turn key.

transmission lock (parking on an incline will jam up the interlock)
push the shifter farther into park while trying to turn the key, or wiggle shifter

Key stuck ignition wont

This usually happens if your steering wheel is in the rightmost or the leftmost position. Try wiggling the steering wheel when pulling out the key.

My steering wheel keeps getting stuck

Modern vehicles are fitted with a steering lock which is an anti-theft device. It is fitted to the steering column usually below the steering wheel. The lock is combined with the ignition switch and engaged and disengaged either by a mechanical ignition key or electronically from the vehicles electronic control unit. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Keys stuck in ignition. its in park. ( and 3 days out of warrenty)

In the ring around the ignition switch (where your key is stuck) there is a recessed dimple. Get a ballpoint pen, insert into the dimple, hold it there while turning your key to the lock position (if it's not already there) and remove the key.

Ignition key is stuck in the cylinder

Did u try turning the steering wheel slightly in either direction? The steering wheel can 'jam' causing the key to seem stuck in the ignition. Simply turning the steering wheel a bit relieves the pressure and the key will turn. Let me know if this works for u

Key stuck in ignition

Take the steering column cover off and tap/hit the ignition barrel with suitable tool (small hammer)while twisting on key.It may be enough to loosen it so key comes out.You will have to remove steering column cover to swap with replacment barrel anyway .Get someone to turn steering wheel while tapping/hitting barrel as it could be the steering column lock pin thats jamming.good luck.
