I just bought a 10 year old mercedes e270 cdi. The dashboard shows 1 malfunction to check coolant level even if the water is full What is the cause

I WENT 50 YEARS NO A/C. EVEN AT 110F . EVEN 1 YEAR OLD.
LOTS OF CAUSES. IF TRUE.
BUT NOT ONE WORD OF PROOF IT IT DID
220F IS NORMAL AND AF DOES NOT BOIL UNTIL 255f.
SHOW PROOFS?
1: NOT RUNNING CLEAR MIX OF 50% AF IS TOP CAUSE
17 YEAR OLD COOLANT IS NEVER EVER GOOD
NOR RUNNING ONLY WATER NOT ALLOWED.
2 BAD RAD CAP , REPLACE IT,
3: COOLANT TOO LOW (EACH MORNING COLD , CAP OFF ALWAYS FULL.
4: BAD THERMOSTAT AGAIN 16 YEARS IS NO GOOD.
5: LEAKS COOLANT TO GROUND, INSIDE ENGINE OR TO PASSENGERS TOES (FOOT WELLS) IS BAD.
6: WATER PUMP BAD, RUSTED OUT IMPELLER.
7:FAN BELT LOOSE. SLIPS. TENSION-ER BAD.
8: BAD FANS, DEAD OR OLD AND SLOW.
OR SIMPLE STUFF THE CORES BOTH CONDENSER AND RAD ENGINE ARE PACKED UP IN BUG GUTS.
SO BLAST THEM OUT WITH WATER HOSE SPRAY NOZZLE.

OR GET THE CAR SERVICED IN A REAL SHOP.
THEY DO KNOW WHAT TO DO AND CHECK.

There is a level sensor inside the coolant recovery tank, it may be defective, a fairly common issue.

1/2 full is fine,it allows expansion and contraction of the coolant fluid.change antifreeze every 3 years.

These cars don't have a dipstick (really!). Using the steering wheel controls you can get to a page on the computer output (middle of speedo) that will give you an indication of oil level. Sorry I don't recall exactly which page it is, but the manual explains - I'm sure you can google it. If you do a normal journey (so the engine is up to temp) and then park on a level surface and wait a few minutes you get the true reading from this function. If you ask me it's all too clever for it's own good...

I had the same problem in me 2004 cdi e270. Check the voltage going to the battery when the car engine is on. Stedy charge of 12v should be going in to the battery, if the voltage is volitale say between 11v to 14v then it your Regulator (which is attached to the backend of the alternator). You need to change alternator and then unplug all the batteries over night and re plug them back again. The problem should go away.

1. There shouldn't be water in the radiator at any time of year at any point of the world. Water causes corrosion, limestone, has worse boiling and freezing points, damages the sealing of the water pump and lowers significantly the efficiency of the cooling system. Clean the system adding a special liquid, following the directions on the can. You can buy such from most car stores and even big gas stations. Before filling with coolant, check for leaks, the water pump. It is annoying to loose your coolant because of an old hose or smth like that. The coolant can be chanced once per three or even five years, check the coolant's packing for this and for the required ratio of solution (usually 50/50 water to coolant). Best is to use distilled or at least soft water, but it is done mainly by paranoid people like me. :) Tap water is good enough. Also, still before filling the system, check whether the radiator is not jammed with dust, leaves, etc. and that the cooling fan switches on at required temperature (temperature sensor, relay if any, the fan itself, wires). When cleaning and filling , put the heat regulator ot the dashboard at full heating, so that the flow to heating radiator is opened as well.

I had a similar problem on my e270 cdi and fixed this by earthing the 3rd brake light . This has solved the problem . No more errors like : 3dr brake light and numbret plate light malfunction ...
