My door dings like it's open all the time when it's not. It's hard to drive for an hour hearing 'ding dong ding dong! How do I make it stop? The dash doesn't show the door ajar but the light on the door itself is on. Sometimes it'll just ding when I go over a bump, make a stop or turn. Other times it's on constantly. Shutting the door hard isn't working anymore. Is this a sensor? And can I disable the bell just for now?

I had the same problem. The issue is with the switch/sensor that is depressed when the door is closed. On mine, there was a white plastic "boot" on the end of the switch that had worn down/cracked. I went to the hardware store and bought a package of rubber tips (the kind that slip onto a chair leg, or end of a pipe, etc.) I pried off the cracked plastic piece and replaced it with the rubber boot. Viola, problem solved.

If your plastic boot is fine, or you don't want a do-it-yourself fix, the switch is easy to replace, and only costs about $5 at the auto parts store.

It may be trying to get your attention for an open door, trunk lid or other item requiring attention. Check your owner's manual for items that can cause it to chime.
