I set the timing by unpluging the wire and when i pluned the wire back in the timing wstays the same

If im not mistaken, there should be a single wire spout connector on the fire wall that controls the E.S.T. Unplug that then start the motor and set the timing with a light as usual to the factory spec. Then shut it off and plug connector back in.Usual a peach/orange colored wire with a black or brown tracer but does not necessarily have to be that color. Will have a single weatherpak connector if it uses this system. Hope this helps

ok ran great before changes. right. you say unpluged computor to set timing.. yes.. do you mean the plug on the firewall passenger side that looks like a fuse holder kindof..?? (set timing connector ) (tan /blk wire)
did it run good during timing proceedure??? wont be MAP that is engine vacume has nothing to do with what you have replaced.
proceedure is to set timing . shut off engine , plug in.. then restart.
yes timing moves as per ECM specs. check that timing did no get out one tooth when you replaced distributor. retime . restart

Did you check the service manual for the proper way to set the timing? on some models you have to unplug a wire from the dist. to set the timing and then plug it back in after setting timing. Because the computer will change it if you don't do it correctly and the timing will be way off.

Not sure if the 95 is the same as the 93. On the '93 there is a timing advance wire you have to unplug (brown wire near the distributor on the firewall with a plug connector.) Start it up with the wire unplugged and set timing to 0 degrees BTDC. Turn off engine. Plug wire back in and computer takes over. There should be a sticker on the radiator shroud that gives timing and spark gap settings.

The timing is to be set at zero TDC.The connector is on the passengers side under the hood against the fire wall.There might be a plastic cover over it.It is a tan wire with a black stripe.Sometimes it will be in the passengers side under the dash.by the blower motor.Same colors on the wire.The check engine light will come on when the connector is unplugged but it will go off after it is plugged back in and the key is cycled on then back on or start.Hope this helps.Good luck.

that wire is under the hood on the passenger side firewall. You might need to remove a plastic cover to see it. It is just a single wire with a weatherpak connector. When you find the wire you have to have the engine running before you unplug it, and you must shut the engine off before plugging it back in.

You can set the timing but the ecm, engine control module will reset it back to specs. So it useless to try. Good luck dont forget to rate

Is this tbi? I'll have to look it up but it should be set at zero degrees with the timing connector unplugged, I think. The timing connector is under the plastic relay cover on the passenger side firewall. It is a single wire plug that the wire is tan with a black tracer. With this unplugged you set the timing mark to the large gap on the timing tab.
