Hi!
Here are some ideas:
1. Spark plug - try cleaning the plugs to limit the problem.
2. Distributor Assembly - the one connected to the spark plugs, clean the contacts and make sure it is well tuned. Check the capacitor as well.
3. Timing - engine tuneup.
4. Idling - adjust idling to proper RPM, usually 1100
5. Jets - jets maybe clogged.
Hope this helps,

I believe this truck has a set of plastic set of injector lines under the intake. When they get some miles the EGR tube thats under the intake blows hot air across them and eventually they break down and get holes in them...Check with an auto shop...not sure what year that problem is with...but I think its the 96/97 models...IF so replace the lines/injectors too...they are about the same money for the lines vs the line/injector kits.
Are the fuel injectors firing on all cylinders?
