Floor carpet in rear is wet.

Hi, my wifes 2001 VW Golf hatchback (recently purchased second hand) is getting wet rear floors/carpets when parked in the rain. Possible areas that it may be leaking are: door seals, sunroof, or aerial. I am suspicious of the sunroof because I thought that I spotted some water inside the right front vanity light located above/ under the sun visor. I can't see this water anymore but we have been garaging the car whenever possible. I'd rather not have the service people remove the sunroof if someone can suggest a common problem that might help. Thanks.

iv been told it could be a drainage hole that is bloked in the sunroof

Same problem in my 2002 Golf. Sunroof drain hoses are clogged or disconnected. Take out interior floor matting and dry out. Clean out sunroof drain hoses carefully with compressed air. This may blow the hoses off the nipples (happened to me) and leaks continue. Good luck.

I hvae the same problem of wet carpet in the foot well of the rear off side seat of my 2001 VW Golf. No sign as to where it is coming from. will check out the leaking sunroof explaination but wont get my hopes up as I dont see how that would get the carpet wet without me noticing?

When I park the car (2001 TDI Golf 4-door) in the rain, the front seats and floor are WET! I thought it was the bike rack but after taking it off the problem still exists. I think it is the sun roof but not sure..

If it is not the drainage holes from the sunroof as suggested above, then it is almost certainly the seal at the bottom of the door nearest the wet patch. Remove all plastic interior door trim and you will see a rubber seal running around the lower part of the door which prevents water ingress. With age, the seal leaks and water enters the inside of the vehicle at the bottom of the door. It is easily resealed with a suitable sealant from an autoparts' shop. About one hour's labour. Good luck.

SOURCE: water in rear footwell

Look in the front door frame, there are drains from the sunroof that are possibly plugged.
Squeeze the plastics nipples to see if water or dirt/debris comes out.
I took a 10" piece of metal shirt hanger and ran it up the nipple and alot of **** came out. Solved my problem.

Good luck

SOURCE: wet passenger side

I believe the problem is a leak in your heater core. The water would run down the inside of the firewall or near it thus running under the mat.

SOURCE: sun visor won't go back into place

if its flopping around or feels loose you can try tightening the "hinge" that connects it to the roof and tightening the screws on the visor itself. That might align it enough to fit again properly.

SOURCE: passener side front carpet always saturated with water

Her is the problem. Sadly it is very common and hard to fix. Read this thread and you will have a few options on fixing it. http://www.mdxers.org/forums/showthread.php?s=b3e7b854b0a400b7b0a7b9950c1646d3&threadid=1131&highlight=water+leak

Water leaking from under drivers foot well on vw touran any idea

If it is inside the car in one footwell it will be one of three things. It will be either a leaking pipe to the rear windscreen washer jet, a worn door seal rubber or the heater matrix behind the dashboard.
Get into that footwell and using the back of your hand start at the floor and feel the carpet for wetness. Work your way up the carpet towards the underside of the dashboard. Your looking for the point where the carpet goes dry. Try this near the centre of the car and nearest the door. Floor only suggests washer pipe. Wet around the door is possibly a door rubber and high under the dash is most likely the heater matrix. This may seem an odd question but does the wetness have a smell? A rotten egg smell suggests screenwash. A sweet smell could be coolant.

2014 sonata and all the floors in the car are soaking wet,I need to know what the problem is also my car windows are wet inside every morning, never has this happened till now, please help?

Hi, there was a problem with the rear lights seal allowing water to penetrate into the interior car floor. The windows are wet inside because of the condensation caused by the wet floor / carpets.

Wet carpet in 2001 lincoln town car

Look underneath the outside of the car, directly under the rear passenger floor board should be a fairly large rubber plug. Make sure that is still securely in place and not damaged.  If the plug appears to be ok, your next area of suspicion would be the weatherstriping around the door. Check for any damage to the black rubber weatherstriping. And last option, Heater Core could be leaking and in need of replacement. Good Luck!

Wet rear floor

I had a similar issue and found that the two rear drain holes for the sun roof came off and any water was running down into the trunk and also the rear floor was always wet. I pulled the rear of the roof panel down to expose the rubber tubes, re-seated them with glue so they would not come off again.

There is a water leak somewhere in my 98 toyota camry that leaks into my passenger side floor. There is no sun roof and no visible leaks from the windows or doors. Any thoughts? A/C leak maybe? water...

I am the original owner of camry xle 1998 with wet floors. In 2000 I had drivers side door seal leaking at welt. Removed old door seal and new weather strip on drivers side installed. The door panel was never wet, but wet at bottom of door where there are drain holes...slowly leaking under carpet.
In 2001 later water again. Coming from overflowing A/C evaporator-drain plugged/ tank full of debris. Removed evaporator, cleaned + drain cleaned.
In 2003, driver door seal against window rotted. Removed door panel and found leak at window belt molding at the mirror joint inside + out. Lots of mold under carpet needed to replace! Made a fuss at dealers for reacurring problem and they replaced the carpet for free.
