In turbo hydro 700 why would forward gears make the rear wheels go in reverse

Your differential is upside down. Ford model T's had the same problem. It was possible to mount the rear axle upside down which made the car go forward in reverse and backward in forward gears.

Van hesitates when put into gear

no other symptoms.?
is it the engine that hesitates or the slushpump A/T tranny.

RPM of engine tells you that.

Stuck in third gear

if this is a standard tranny the problem is more than likely in the top cover of the tranny one of two things either the nylon seats for the shifter ball are worn out, or the shift forks are worn down and have slipped out of the sleeve they sit in inside the tranny. can usually get a rebuilt top at a resonable cost pretty easy to change out. can be done through the floor board by removing the shifter and console.

No reverse but all gear going forward

Just to let you know that I just got my care back from the tranny shop. I had not had a problem at all and just the other night after picking up my son , got in my car and it hesitated to go in reverse but it and it bucked real hard twice. Did a little of the same ..but anyway...the tranny place has to replace the lock nut on the main shaft. Remove side cover of transmission, replace self loking nut on main shaft ..nut came lose ...$320.00 So I was very happy I didn't have to have a valve job, sylenoids replaced or rebuilt tranny.
