1991 honda accord start fine and when you turn it off, you have to wait for a while almost 10 to15 minute before the car will start again. the car just crank and crank. is this a relay problem or fuel pump. when i open the fuel line at fuel rails, gas comes out. then the car will start without waiting for 10 minute. and sometimes the car will start quickly just normal. im afraid it will not start again. battery is new, tune up is done. some people say main relay is bad some say the fuel pump is bad. please help.

I would think the PGM-FI relay maybe bad. It's located up under the far driver's side of the dashboard. When it doesn't start, I would check to see if you are getting spark at the plugs. There could be a problem with the PGM-FI Control Unit.

Hi .....i recently bought a honda accord 1991 ex r .............it was running fine but all sundden one day its havd problems ........it would start up fine ........and driven for say 20 minutes then it...

These cars had two very common problems. #1 The pgmfi (main) relay has solder joints that go bad, I would repair or replace this first as they are not very expensive. It is likely your problem, if not, it will be one day so do it for maintenance if nothing else. # 2 is distributors. There are several components inside the distributor that can go bad, the easiest and cheapest solution in the long run is to just replace the whole thing with a new one (not rebuilt). Most aftermarket parts stores sell these fairly reasonably now.

Replace the relay. If that does not help, do the distributor. The ignition switches had problems as well, but they usually prevents starting...be ready for that one day as well.

Sometime the engine will turn over fine but, not

Listen for 2 to 3 second prime on fuel pump when the key is turned to the on position. Make sure every thing is as quiet as possible when doing this. also it may take several tries to hear it so make sure you wait at least 10-15 seconds before each try . the fuel-pump should also run while cranking. Do this and re-post and we'll take ti from there!--thanks

Intermittantly the car won't start

Main Fuel injector relay is probably the culprit. Buy a second hand one for about 50 bucks and replace it yourself within 30 minutes.

Reduced power below 4000 RPM

The main relay also controls the transmission and will cause an intermittent interruption of power and indicates its going bad. about a $60.00 replacement cost. the relay is located under left side of dash.
