Hi, I'm trying to replace the oil pressure sensor on our 2003 1500 Avalanche. One dealer told me the sensor was near the oil pan / drain plug and another told me it was back of the block on top. It doesn't look right at the pan (maybe a temp sensor?) and I can't see the back of the block. Anyone know? It's the 5.3 with 4wd/Z71. IF its at the top, any hints on easing the replacement? Thanks!

I believe the sensor in the pan is the oil level sensor. I pretty sure the sensor you are looking for is on the top of the block, at the back of the block, below the intake manifold. There maybe some fuel lines and harnesses attached to the back of the block, it is rather difficult to get to the sensor. I do believe they make a socket to fit the sensor. On these newer cars are very difficult to get to certain parts. An inspection mirror may help to see it.

Where is the oilpan in a 2004 chevy avalanche?

The oil pan is the bottom of the engine, it has a plug in it to drain the oil. Not to be confused with the transmission pan, sometimes they look a like. The drain plug is usually up and out of the way of being hit with a curb and knocked off. Hope this helps.

Ebay has several junkyards that deal in newer wrecked cars and sell for 1/2 of new price. Do a search for your vehicle, if nothing is listed, contact the seller. Watch their ratings! Most are very good but some take forever to ship out.

Oil Pan drain plug is leaking. Dealer service replaced with oversized tapered plug but still leaking. How big of a job is it to replace oil pan?

you may be able to cure the leak with a thicker, softer gasket on the drain plug. Also the drain plugs come in several oversizes. So if the 1st one doesn't work you can try the next size.

http://www.cgenterprises.com/drain_plugs_oversize_repair.htm.

considering the cost of oil pan replacement I would just add a dab of RTV sealant to the drain plug washer next time I had an oil change.

Oil pressure

the oil pump pickup could have come off the oil pump, but u could fell it inside the pan through the drain plug, that is possible, but not very likely, try installing an aftermarket high volume oil pump, most are adjustable for either high volume or high press, you want volume.
