I had the same problem. Cheap way to fix is to remove fuse. Only problem with that is my power windows were on the same fuse so they wouldn't work without the fuse. Alternative was to remove the bulbs from interior lights and leave the fuse in. The door ajar light will remain on but at least your interior lights won't be on running down your battery.

It may appear if there is a particular sensor fails.
Try reset the indication using the following technique.
Sometimes the problem could be solved.
Advantage is you could use this technique in the future too.

If you can get an OBD 2 scanner off eBay (US$ 6), you could be able to communicate with your car ECU (Electronic Control Unit) using the smart-phone app.

So that, there is a chance to CLEAR all the error indications.

After that, if problem still persists, it means the vehicle need full scan (you can't do this at home, probably seek a vehicle garage).

Why do the interior lights stay on when doors are closed and engin is off in 2003 ford windstar

one of the door switches is stuck. you can try and free up, however you need to find which one it is. try and spray pblaster, or rust renetrant into the top of the latches, and dont forget the hatch door as they usually stick the most. someone with a good scanner can tell which door switch is staying on, or the dealer can for a fee........jim

Why does the door open light stay on in my 1998 Windstar when no doors are open?

is the switch in the always on position ? did they stay on for 30 seconds or so after locking /unlocking vehicle prior to this ? so i'd check the the light switch function, if ok then there may be a timer relay for the light that has failed , most likely located in fusebox lower dash drivers side or behind the kick panel drivers side keep me posted if you wish

Interior lights stay on after doors closed.

Had same problem with my 98 windstar. I checked all the doors to see which door it was and found it was the sliding door. I try w40 did not work i guess sensors were to worn. The only solution was to take sensor from the door and cross the black wires. It works no more light on.

96 Ford Windstar the rear left cabin light and slidding door light stays on all the time and the sensor on the dash show that the doors are open when they are not. What can be causeing this?

Use WD40 spray and spry inside lock,Dirt can cause the sensor to stay open circuit either if it door is open or closed. Spray and open and close door few times, and repeat it till light goe's out.

Sliding door sensor is always leaving interior lights always on what can i do to see if sensor on sliding door is bad

try taking the side paneling off (most likely unscrew afew things nad pull it off, might take some forse) then look near the latch that the door closes on. you should see some wired going to the latch (these are the wires for the sensor) unplug the wire and close the door to see if the light stays on. if it doesnt stay on anymore it should have something to do with your sensor

1998 Ford Windstar fuse problem - dome light stays on etc

you most likely have a bad door ajar switch- the door panel has to be removed to access it, its on the door latch- you can unplug them this will take care of the batt drain prob.as for the locks it may be a switch problem- most ford vehicles will not let you lock the vehicle from the driver's door when it's open to prevent locking the keys in.

95 ford windstar door ajar stays on and interior lights stay on and not able to find door ajar sensors

These switches are inside the doors attached to the door latch assembles. If you know some one with a scan tool you can go into the body computer and see which one is showing open when all the doors are closed. The most likly one is the drivers side door or the two in the rear gate. I've replaced those the most.If you don't want to replace them you can unplug them and the lights will go off. Hope this helps. If you need more info let me know> Thanks Dan
