Hello; My 2002 kia sportage steering wheel tends to do some mild jerking back and forth when the vechile begins to move forward while making a sharp turn. I am currently avoiding sharp turns when my vechile is just creeping along or pulling out into traffic. Tie rods donot appear loose and boots look normal. What might be causing this recent problem? Thanks Brian

SOURCE: 00 KiA Sportage 4wd Locking Up on Turns

It sounds like your CV joints, on the outsides of the front axles, are binding up. You might end up having to replace them. A small piece of advise, drive about a mile or so once a month in 4WD, that will help prevent this from happening again.

I would get the vehicle aligned first. Usually, a tie rod will cause the vehicle to shake when you apply the breaks.Take it in for an alignment.

2005 Kia Sportage makes power steering growl ONLY when turning wheel to the left at road speed.

Is there a possibility it is a wheel bearing you hear? One test to check wheel bearings is to move the steering wheel slightly left and right at road speed,if you can make or change any noise from the front of the vehicle,it needs a wheel bearing or two.

Remove and install steering wheel kia sportage 1998

Why would you get involved with the steering wheel ?

You paid a repair shop that obviously doesn't do very good work

Take it back

If the steering wheel was not removed for whatever your
car was in the shop for ,then you don't remove it to resolve
the issue.

If the steering rack was replaced, then they did a terrible job
putting it back together

Kia rio steering wheel is locked and won't turn

Okay, I just had this same problem with my 2009 Kia Rio and I did this. So not to down everyone's post on here -- everyone is correct -- by turning the steering wheel back and forth and turning the ignition key at the same time is a correct method. However, after talking to a Kia Serviceman, he told me you have to do it hard -- meaning turning it violently back and forth hard (madman style). In order to do this operation, I had my wife sit in the driver side and turn the key while I was on her left side grabbing the steering wheel and violent moving it back and forth like a madman, and after about 2mins of doing it the key turned over -- problem fixed. Do not worry about breaking anything; turning the steering wheel violently hard is a must -- this was told to me by a Kia service Rep. Remember -- have someone assist you; either turning the key or violently turning the steering wheel back and forth. Hope this works for you!!!!!

My 2005 Sedona is hard to turn, steering wheel jerks, power steering fluid is full.

Steering column intermediate shaft (between firewall and rack/pinion) U-joints have lost their lube; not uncommon on this model. Climb under

Low pressure on the clutch pedal.

Might be time to change the clutch.
